Daniel H. Burkey, 90, of Wooster died on Monday, April 10, 2023 at The Avenue of Wooster.

He was born September 9, 1932 in Wooster to Chester and Fern Lehr Burkey.

Daniel was a 1951 graduate of Smithville High School and served his country in the U.S. Army.  He had worked for over 40 years as a ticket agent for Northwest Orient Airlines. Daniel was an excellent singer who participated in the National FFA choir and performed at many weddings.

He is survived by his brother James (Barbara) Burkey of Smithville along with nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Dwight Burkey and a sister Margaret Hubacher.

Private family services will be held with burial in Wooster Cemetery.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank to the Avenue of Wooster for  the care and compassion they showed to  Dan and his family.

  2. We would like to extend our condolences to all those of the Burkey family. Dan was a great joy to share some very treasured moments with in these past few weeks of his life. He lived life well and we are grateful for his arrival on his eternal destination with our wonderful Lord and Savior.

  3. SO SORRY TO HEAR OF DAN’S PASSING, WE WILL MISS HIM AT LEACH’S GARAGE, DAN WAS A LONG TIME CUTOMER WHO WAS ALWAYS A JOY TO WORK WITH. I WILL MISS HIS “FREE PENS” HE ALWAYS SHARED WITH US 🙂 OUR SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY.

  5. We only had the pleasure of knowing Dan through his daily breakfasts over several years at Bob Evans in Wooster. But his smiling face and upbeat personality made him a welcome way to face any day! That followed with occasional visits to see Dan at The Avenue, as we missed his presence at Bob Evans over the last year or two. But he was and will be missed! We are grateful for those short, but numerous, occasions. Thank you for sharing him and God bless the family.

  8. I am so so sorry to read of Dan’s passing. I didn’t read my newspaper for 2 days and almost missed it. I will pass it on to Dwight and his family today. Dan was a special person and will be missed by all who knew him. Please accept my profound sympathy.
