Dean Richard Schrock, 95, of Wooster passed away April 23, 2023 at his home following a period of declining health.

Dean was born on August 19, 1927, in Wooster the son of Alvin J. and Mary (Ramseyer) Schrock.  He graduated from Smithville High School in 1945, enlisting in the Merchant Marine the day after graduation and served two years aboard ships in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.    On June 20, 1948, he married Marvel Jean Conrad in Smithville.  They traveled to all 50 states, as well as Europe, Australia and China.  They were members of the Golden Recliners Camping Club and loved playing cards with a variety of friends.  They wintered in Pharr, TX for 15 years.  Marvel Jean died in 2009 after 61 years of marriage.  Dean was employed by the Orrville Milk Company for 20 years, working his way up to plant superintendent.  After retirement, he worked in several capacities for Mast Lepley Silo.  He also enjoyed farming and had an egg business.  Dean’s greatest pleasure was sharing time with his family.  On May 20, 2012, Dean married Joy Schaffter Wengerd at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Apple Creek where they were members.  Dean and Joy also enjoyed traveling.

Dean is survived by his wife, Joy, and brother, Darrell “Cy” (Mary Ann) Schrock of Wooster; four children: Sandra (Norman) Sohar of Orrville; Kathy (Virgil) Troyer of Apple Creek; Linda Schrock of Wooster and Richard (Greta) Schrock of Findlay; close family friend Wanda Beattie of Wooster; six grandchildren: Sarah (Stephen) Scott of Sunbury; Megan Sohar of Orrville; Steven (Lara) Troyer of Savoy, IL; Rachel Troyer (Andrew Pauly) of Floyd, VA, Mark (Kate) Troyer of Columbus and Christine (Michael) Searles of Grand Haven, MI; also ten great-grandchildren:  Evelyn and Kallan Scott, Anya, Evan and Nora Troyer, Solomon and Violet Pauly, Harold, Louise and Esther Troyer.

Dean is also survived by four step-children Brian (Alma Miller) Wengerd of Holmesville, Keith (Michelle) Wengerd of Millersburg, Bruce (Dianna) Wengerd of Wooster and Julie (Andrew) Guglielmi of Granville; eleven step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lillian Winkler, Donald Schrock, Laverne Redett, Mary Louise Berkey and Dale Schrock.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

Private family burial will be in Smithville Cemetery where military rites will be observed.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 11:30 AM at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 68 W. Main St., Apple Creek with Pastor Dale Smith officiating.

  9. Uncle Dean ‘s life was a life lived to the fullest. A wonderful, loving family, with so many children, and grandchildren, some of the great things he’ll be remembered for. It’s so hard to loose a parent! I hope the wonderful memories you have of him, as well as the love and friendship you have around you, will support you at this time. A favorite memory of mine was playing cards with your family, laughing, and having a great time.. May reflecting on good times and family memories help you to smile once more:)
