Nancy Lee Williams passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Wooster, Ohio on April 24, 2023.

Born Nancy Lee Nugent in Utica, New York on June 14th, 1935, Mom was the second of two daughters born to Louise Nugent (DuRoss) and Robert E. Nugent. She was an astute student and athlete, playing basketball and field hockey at Utica Free Academy where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Walt Williams. On October 31, 1953, Nancy and Walt were married and she joined him at the Quantico Marine Corps base in Virginia.

After the Marine Corps, Nancy and Walt moved back home to Utica and began raising their family. Mom cared for their beloved household raising four children and supporting Walt as he worked and pursued an MBA at Syracuse University. As a young mother, Mom volunteered as a Candy Striper and loved giving back to her community. Nancy and Walt spent the next 30 years moving all over the United States before finally settling down in Wooster, OH. She was known for her joyful personality and generosity in each of the communities where she lived as she turned every new house into a home with her keen eye for décor and interior design. She loved to decorate for special events and holidays, including family favorites: Flag Day and Halloween.

Nancy was generous and full of life.  She was an accomplished artist, a devoted friend and an active participant in local philanthropic activities. She loved entertaining friends and family and hosting Walt’s corporate and charitable events. Many will remember the benefits they hosted for the Wayne Center for the Arts including billiards 9-ball tournaments, the first annual Poker Showdown, and Sleepless in Wooster. Nancy is known by family and friends for her generosity and care, donating to the Rotary Auctions, Boys Village, and Meals on Wheels among a few.

Nancy enjoyed their travels around the world including Normandy, Windsor Castle in England, the Olympics in Atlanta, GA, and many Windjammer Yacht Sails to name a few. She enjoyed playing tennis and traveling to sporting events including Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. She always loved spending time with her sister Terralyn and Walt in their condo in Naples, Florida as well as at the Cabin in Upstate New York which was always full of family and friends. She began painting in 1973 and her collection brightens their lovely home and is cherished by her friends and family. Mom was the beloved matriarch of a blossoming family, and she loved building a first book collection for each new grandchild.

Nancy was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She is survived by her four dear children: Bill (Tricia), David (Ann Wimsatt), Karen Williams and Lauri Sanders.  Affectionately known as ‘GLee’, she is survived by ten loving grandchildren: Alexandra Kalamaras (Nick Hubers), Sawyer Williams (Melanie Matsuo), Danielle Kalamaras (Bryan Ovalle), Jake Sanders (Elizabeth Hinderhan), Winston Williams, Walker Williams (Katie Barcay), Blake Williams, Lily (Eric) Cicconetti, Devon Williams, Walter Sanders (Shawn Wells) and one great-grandson, Kirin Williams.  GLee was also deeply fond of her step-grandson Jason Kalamaras (Trish) and their children, Hailey and Kyle, as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews.

According to her wishes, final memorials will be private.

We truly appreciate the opportunity God gave us to be a part of their circle of friends and their family. Heartfelt prayers for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild as you navigate a world that Nancy made so special for all of you and share your gifts as they did. Celebrating her joining the love of her life, Walt, in heaven for eternity! The world was truly blest by Walt and Nancy and the legacy they built. We will miss her beautiful smile and I count her painting she gave me as one of my special treasures. Very fondly and will truly be missed by us…Jon, Martha, Katie, and Nate Bollinger.

We would watch her black and white movies, talking about her life and adventures with Walt and her family, to laughing over the smallest things together . 6. Our thoughts are with you all. Nancy was so kind. I remember an especially fun dinner that they donated to the Art Center at their home! And how I loved their idea in their basement for their grandchildren to each have an area of wall! So special!
