Vera (Graber) Zuercher of Wooster peacefully passed away on July 26, 2023 at Danbury Senior Living at the age of 103.

Vera was born March 28, 1920 in Wooster to Fred E. and Lulu (Franks) Graber.  She was born and raised in the old “Stone House” at the OARDC. In 1941, she married her husband, Rollin, and they shared a life for 63 years.

In her early years, Vera worked for R.C. Yost Insurance Company and Landes & Bowman Real Estate and Insurance. She took off 15 years to raise her boys. When she returned to the workplace, she worked her way up to the executive secretary to the president of Wayne Savings and Loan Company. Eventually, she and her husband founded Premier Promotions, an advertising specialty company, that two of their sons would later own and operate.

All who knew Vera knew she lived life on her own terms and with style. In high school, she pitched for the boys’ baseball team as the only girl on the team and was elected as the first female president of the school’s student council.

She could swing a club on the links with the best of them and “always got good cards” playing Bridge. She was an avid Indians fan through it all and would keep score at home for every game. She made pies and caramel corn you’d give up a diet for and was known for the Moravian Stars she made for Christmas that still hang at Trinity Church and in the homes of family and friends.

Surviving are her sons, Gary (Dominique) Zuercher of Paris, France, Tim (Mary) Zuercher of Wooster and Randy (Karen) Zuercher of Dayton, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Husband Rollin and sisters Florence Bucher and Norma Newman preceded her in death.

Services will be held Wednesday, August 9th at 10am at Trinity United Church of Christ, 150 E. North Street, Wooster.  Burial will be at Apple Creek Cemetery immediately following. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 8th from 6-8 pm at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

For those wishing to do so, contributions can be made to:  Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, OH 44691 or at www.ohioshospicelifecare.org

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the staff members of Danbury Senior Living and Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare who brought comfort to Vera in her final days.

  7. I just heard about your mom’s passing. Such a lovely lady. I have fond childhood memories of your whole family. Lots of homemade ice cream was consumed. It was so nice to see her again at Danbury. She lived across the hall from my mother in law. Blessings to her whole family.
