F. Maye Wertenberger, 93, of Wooster passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Danbury of Wooster.

She was born on July 7, 1930 in Wooster the daughter of John F. and Clara Baney Wepler.  On February 19, 1953 she married Robert Wertenberger.  He preceded her in death in 2017.

Maye worked as a payroll specialist for Croskey, Hostetler & Mapes for 20 years.  She was a member of the St. Mary’s Church and Westfield Country Club.  Maye volunteered for People to People and had been a 4-H leader. She enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her daughters Pamela (Mark) Schlosser of Cuyahoga Falls, Patti (Michael) Milligan of Wooster and Roberta (Ron) Shaffer of Dalton; grandchildren Lauren (Joe) Sherman, Chris (Sarah) Schlosser, Matthew (Sarah) Schlosser, Kristin Milligan, Kaitlin Milligan, Kelcey (Bo) Pilkington and Carly McCormack; great-grandson Carson Schlosser.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded by a brother Howard Wepler.

A Service of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Deacon Bob Zerrer officiating.   Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

  1. To all Maye’s family, sending my heartfelt condolences on her passing. I have so many memories of your Mom/Grandmother from my growing up years, and it was a great family to be neighbors with. Take comfort in knowing that Maye is whole again and reunited with Hasty in the happiest of places.
