Ralph Ian Brown of Wooster, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024.  He was born in Paisley, Scotland to Robert and Elizabeth (Hutchison) Brown on November 15, 1939.

Ralph is a 1957 Barberton High School graduate.  He married the love of his life, Maxine Marie (Seaver) Brown on April 2, 1960.  He served 8 years in the US Marine Corps Reserves. After graduating from Akron University, he worked for 17 years at Babcock and Wilcox in their accounting department.  He later moved his family to Hammondsport New York where he proudly worked at Taylor Winery and later went on to buy and run The Hammondsport Motel with his wife.

Ralph loved to golf, travel, and read.  He was an avid collector of coins, stamps, and rocks.  He loved to learn and actively researched history, archeology, and genealogy.

Surviving is his wife, Maxine of over 64 years; his children David (Kim) Brown, Donald (Christina) Brown, Cynthia (Kristopher) Phillips, and Linda (James) Cook; his grandchildren Ian, Holly (Derek), Tessa, Brittany (Eddie), Heather (George-Edward), Aaron, Ryan, Julie, and Jason; his sister Irene Vultaggio; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Wayne Presbyterian Church, 7152 Burbank Rd. Wooster, with Rev. Christy Mitchell officiating.  Burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron, Ohio.

Friends will be received on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd. Wooster, Ohio 44691 or Wayne Presbyterian Church, 7152 Burbank Rd. Wooster, Ohio 44691.

  1. He was a great uncle to me it was always good to talk to him about Cleveland sports I had my first dawg pound experience with him I will never forget it

  4. Ralph was a wonderful big brother who was always there for me. I miss him so much. When I was ill, he was there to help take care of me and keep my spirits up. Now you are with the angels.

  7. Ralph was such an interesting gentleman. I worked with him in the genealogy department at the library. He always had a smile and a great story. When I would tell him about being a caregiver for my parents, he had a sympathetic ear. I’m glad I met him. Hes one of those guys you can call the best! My deepest sympathy goes out to Maxine and his children.
