Jane Marlene Purtan, 83, of Wooster passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at West View Healthy Living.

She was born on July 30, 1941, in Millersburg to Clinton and Lorna Carpenter Neal.

Marlene worked at the Wayne County License Bureau & Title Office for over 20 years and was a school cafeteria manager in Virginia.  She loved working with children.  Marlene loved vegetable and flower gardening, mushroom hunting, attending her grandchildren sporting events, going on trips with Elaine and Sheri, and she was a world traveler.  She loved her feline Sassy.  Marlene was a breast cancer survivor.

She is survived by her daughters Tamela Turk of Missouri, Sheri Martin of Wooster, and Stacy (David) Snoddy of Washington D.C.; grandchildren Amanda (Luke Reed) Turk and Jared Turk, great grandson Jackson Reed; stepson James (Michelle) Purtan; step granddaughter Sarah Purtan and a sister Elaine Landon of Killbuck.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Jerry Martin (1984) and second husband John Purtan Jr. (2022); siblings Larry Neal and Jeannie Schodorf; brother-in-law Ronnie Landon and sister-in-law Helen Neal.

The family would like to say special thank you to West View Healthy Living and Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare for their wonderful care of Marlene.

A private family service will be held later.  McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

  5. I adored Marlene. We worked together and she was always smiling, happy, and above all ornery. We may have laughed as much as we worked. She was a special woman and loved her family. A huge loss for everyone who knew her. My thoughts are with your family.
