William “Bill” Camp Jr., 67, passed away on October 1, 2024, after bravely battling a long illness.

Born on June 6, 1957, in Elyria, Ohio, to Susanna Heller Camp and William Paul Camp Sr., Bill faced a profound loss when his mother passed away when he was just six. His love for fishing came from numerous trips with his dad. He later developed a close bond with his stepmother, Esther Young Camp and after her death, his stepmother Betty Bergman Camp. Bill graduated from Elyria High School, where he played varsity football, and went on to earn a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati, followed by a master’s in business administration from the University of Dayton.

Throughout his career, Bill worked at several notable companies, including Monsanto Research Corporation and Rubbermaid, where he served as an Advanced Product Engineer. He held leadership roles at Hancor Inc., Atlas Bolt and Screw, and eventually ran his own company, Einstein Design. With 56 U.S. and international patents to his name, Bill’s inventive genius touched many industries. At Einstein Design, he developed innovative products both for himself and his clients.

Bill had a big, bold personality and a passion for his many hobbies. He loved remodeling and undertook major restorations of several buildings in Vanlue, Ohio, one of which now houses the Wildcat Cafe. He also restored a classic, 65-year-old, Lyman wooden motorboat, which he loved taking out on Lake Erie. His love for saltwater aquariums led him to create a slice of the Great Barrier Reef right in his home, offering friends hours of enjoyment as they watched his sea creatures and coral in action. Bill also had a green thumb, mastering the art of vegetable gardening and canning everything from tomatoes to pickles. Known for his legendary dance parties, complete with a disco ball, Bill knew how to throw a memorable event. Despite multiple back surgeries and eventually being wheelchair-bound, he never lost his determination or his positive outlook on life.

Bill was predeceased by his parents but leaves behind a loving family: his father’s sister, Rita Ladarola (age 101), siblings Sue Rafferty, Robert Camp (Michael Mankins), and Mary Beth Camp (Thompson Morrison), along with nephews and nieces Jonathan, Keith, Michael, Matthew, Jason, and Caitlin, and a number of cousins on the Iadarola, Heller, and Young sides of the family.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

  6. All around great guy. Fun loving high school friend who kept us laughing with his wit. Enjoyed our time as friends on Facebook and always wondered how your vegetables grew better than mine! I always said I would take up your offer for a swim in your pool one day. Sorry I never made it…… You will be missed my friend.

  15. I had the honor of becoming one of Bill’s friends. We bonded over us both having spine surgeries, and eventually became really close friends and I was over daily helping with what I could after I healed up, and he hadn’t. He had a heart of gold, loved to tell jokes, and no matter how much pain he was in he still asked others “How they were doing” and he genuinely wanted to know. I hope he’s dancing in heaven on a beach with a beautiful view of nature and totally passion free with all pets and loved ones that have previously passed with some amazing music playing. You were my friend, that became family. Miss you Bill. Love always, Sherry.
