Mary Jane (Redd) Patterson, 92 of Wooster was born in the front room of her Grandma Doty’s house on September 30, 1932, in Spencerville, Ohio, “Jane” transitioned to her eternal life peacefully on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024, at West View Nursing Home in Wooster. She was surrounded by family members.

She was the daughter of Eugene and Gertrude (Doty) Redd, of Lima, OH. Jane is survived by her three sons: David (Jennifer) of Wooster, Gregory (Sharon) of Delaware, OH and Todd (Renee) of Wooster, nephew Bradley (Charlotte) Detrick of New York City and Jane (Shawn) Stevens of Lima. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn (Dale) Detrick of Lima.

Jane spent her life in the service of others. Besides raising her family, Jane served as the Executive Director of the Wayne County Red Cross. Not one to sit behind a desk, she was always the first one on the scene of a fire or other local disaster, providing a displaced family food, clothing, and a means of shelter. Jane was also one of the friendly, helpful employees who greeted you at the counter at Maurer Pharmacy and Elder-Beerman. She was a volunteer for Life Care Hospice of Wooster. Jane had been an active member of Central Christian Church since 1965 and served as a Deacon. Jane was always looking for volunteer opportunities to make her communities a better place.

Those who knew her enjoyed her caring nature, sense of humor, and willingness to “call it like she saw it”, a skill she honed, particularly in her twilight years. Mom was one of a kind and she will be missed greatly.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Central Christian Church, 407 N. Market St., Wooster, with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating.  Inurnmentl will in Spencerville Cemetery at a later date.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family is grateful for the excellent care she received at West View Healthy Living, from their employees, as well as the incredible employees and volunteers of Life Care Hospice of Wooster.

  1. Jane was a remarkable woman who I had the privilege of knowing through my mother’s work with her at the Red Cross. Prayers of comfort for Todd and the rest of Jane’s family.
