Vernon Eugene Smith, 65, of Millersburg, Ohio passed away November 13, 2024 at Majora Lane Nursing Home in Millersburg from many health issues.

He was born on July 1, 1959 in Wooster to Kenneth L. and Jean E. Berry Smith.

Vernon graduated from Wooster High School and the Wayne County Vocational School in 1978 as an autobody technician.

He worked for many auto body shops over the years, Paul Julirette, Ken Geiser, Max Hinton, Sam Hinton at Wooster Chevy, Village Motors of Millersburg and Pallotta Ford where he was forced to retire due to declining health.

Vernon enjoyed bowling on several teams, some of which were championship teams at Triway Lanes when B.J. Starr and Bill Ewing owned it. He loved traveling to many historical places with his brother, some of which were Gettysburg, Henry Ford Museum, Air Force Museum, Daytona 500 and also visited many southern states.    Vernon also enjoyed Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Guardians, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. racing team and anything to do with racing.

He for years helped Dave Wirt racing team 991 with paint schemes and driving to get to the race on time, also helping Lloyd Wirt 990 when he was racing.  Vernon enjoyed visiting and the friendship with the crew that hung out at Wirt Tractor Sales.  He liked working on Boyd Wirt farm and helping out with the wreckers when they needed help.

Vernon is survived by his brother Duane Smith of Wooster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Smith and Berry; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; sister-in-law Mary Lou Wile-Smith; three furry friends Ted, Chopper and Belle.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Paster Arnie Kaufman officiating.  Interment will follow at Smithville Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Family would like to thank Majora Lane for their care and patience with Vernon, also the doctors, nurses and staff for an outstanding job.  A big thank you to Roger Brennman and Dave Wirt for all of their help when it was needed the most.
