Nellie E. Long, age 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Wooster on January 2, 2025.  She was born in Lima, Ohio on May 8, 1951, at St Rita Hospital.  She was the youngest of nine children.

In her early twenties, she traveled across the United States in an old school bus with her husband Roger, following the 1070’s “Jesus Movement,” and making extended stays in Colorado Springs; Las Vegas; and San Diego.  Their travel ended with a return trip back to Ohio to start a family in Wooster.

Nellie worked at the Apple Creek Development Center in Apple Creek for 20 years, later working at Luk Clutch Systems, LLC. in Wooster where she retired.

At the top of the “Happiest Moments List” of her life, was becoming “Nana” to her two grandchildren.  In addition to enjoying her grandchildren, she led a simple life playing Bingo, drinking ice cold Coors Light, feeding the birds, and visiting with family & friends.  Her favorite Bible passage was Psalm 23, and the favorite song she enjoyed echoed how she lived her life, “My Way” sung by Frank Sinatra.

Nellie is survived by her daughter Christina Long-Nixon (Jeremiah Nixon), her grandchildren Jaylynn and John Nixon all of West Salem, Ohio.  She is also survived by her faithful sweet cat Smuckers; along with special friends Rita Rogers and Diane Holmes; her brother Bill of Yuma AZ., sisters Ruth Ann of Tacoma, WA, and Georgia of Findley, OH; special nephew Jimmy of Lima OH, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nellie M. Gay; her son Joshua Isaac Long; brothers Walter, George and James; sisters Margaruite, and Mary; and special friend Shirley Spahr.

A private service was held previously.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster assisted the family.
