Thomas “Tom” Patrick Obrst, Sr., 72, of Wooster passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Wooster Community Hospital while surrounded by his loving family after a short, but hard fought, battle with cancer.
He was born March 17, 1952, in Akron to Leo and Dorothy Kovacich Obrst. On December 12, 1992, he married Helen “Sue” Kirkendall Burnett. She survives.
Following his graduation from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1970, Tom joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as a Sgt in the Second Recon Battalion. He retired from Luk and had previously worked as the plant manager at Akro in Holmesville and as a production manager at RBB in Shreve. Tom enjoyed watching the Guardians, Browns, fishing, hunting, playing Euchre with his family, going on drives with Sue, and watching his grandkids play volleyball, softball and soccer. Tom was a member of the Shreve American Legion Post 67.
Along with his wife, Sue, Tom is survived by his children Thomas Obrst, Jr. of Killbuck, Dustin (Courtney) Burnett of West Salem, Patrick (Erin) Obrst of Killbuck, Stephen (Jill) Obrst of Shreve and Sara Miller of Millersburg; grandchildren Glystin, Rowyn, Garrett, Tobias, Grant, Boone, Brigham, Brayden, Cameron, Austin and Bryson; brother Leo (Christy) Obrst of Bridgeport, WV; sisters Donna Feran of Tallmadge, Cathie (Dale) Harpley and Lisa (Bob) Smith both of Brimfield; many nieces and nephews and his canine companion Deeks.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Richard Feran,
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:15 PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville. A funeral procession will form at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to Wayne County Humane Society, 1161 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to the Wayne County Dog Shelter, 5694 Burbank Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

To Toms Family, As years go by we will never forget those days we just hanging around laughing and cruising the Hungry I and Lujans. The whole gang was always together. We had some great times back then. Tom and I would speak over the last few years , laughed till we cried. Gonna miss you Buddy! See you on the other side!

I have such fond memories of Tom. As young adults we shared so many ‘escapades’ together. I’m sure our Lord has seated him at his table. Condolences and All the Kindest Wishes to those family and friends of Tom’s that will be with him again someday.
