Larry Brooks, 86, of Wooster passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. He was born on February 3, 1938, to the late Cecil and Myrtle Brooks.
Larry attended Wooster High School and graduated with the class of 1956.
He met the love of his life, Linda and won her heart with his ’55 Chevy. The rest was history when they married in 1960, celebrating 64 incredible years together as best friends. They spent years traveling all over the world but always found themselves back at their beloved second home in Canada. Fishing on Deep Bay was something they enjoyed together, always receiving compliments on their “little red boat.”
One thing that made Larry truly special was his ability to make anyone feel like a friend with his infectious smile, he never knew a stranger. Even family pets took a special liking to him. His charm and ornery sense of humor helped him make connections everywhere he went. You never had to question Larry’s love for you; he had a way of accepting everyone exactly as they were. Whether sharing a laugh or lending a hand, he was loved by all.
Larry was a man of many talents, including golfing, fishing and bowling. He accomplished two hole-in-ones, and a perfect game in bowling, always enjoying these hobbies with friends and family. As an avid outdoorsman, he was always outside. He loved birdwatching, going on walks, and feeding the many animals that visited the family yard. His love of animals often took him on drives to Amish country to spot deer and donkeys along the way.
He was known for never turning down a good pork chop, drinking cold cans of Pepsi, and making delicious homemade ice cream. He was the family’s resident bingo caller, completed many Sudoku puzzles, and was the best partner in euchre.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dave and Wanda Rohr of Wooster, and his sister-in-law Virginia Brooks of Wooster; children Cindy Brooks of Shreve, Pam (John) Bender of Wooster, Paula Brooks of Wooster, and Bill Brooks of Wooster; grandchildren Ryan (Josh) Brooks, Erika (Brandon) Jacks, Charlie (Kristen) Lumbar, and Logan Miller.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother Dana Brooks, sister Judy Hill, and his infant brother Donald Brooks.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St. is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691.
