David Wayne Kennedy, 69, of Fayetteville, North Carolina and formerly of Wooster, passed away Wednesday February 5, 2025 at Cape Fear Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

He was born on November 24, 1955 in Camp Hanford, WA to Lloyd Allen and Eileen Carol Landau Kennedy Sr.  On October 27, 1990 he married Darlene Gilbert.  She survives.

David was owner and operator of Kennedy Painting.  He was an avid fisherman and mushroom hunter.  He also enjoyed golf, being outside, junk picking and enjoyed sports.  Most of all, David loved spending time with family and his grandkids.

In addition to his wife, Darlene, he is survived by his children Jason W. Kennedy of Wooster, David W. Kennedy of Fayetteville, NC, and Brittany C. (Matt) Perkins of Wooster; grandchildren Madysen, Miles, Alexis, Maddilynn, Mark and Mariah; brothers Lloyd (Rhonda) Kennedy of Dalton and Leslie Kennedy of Wooster along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Rebecca Connock and Charles Kennedy.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.  Interment will follow in Fariview Cemetery in Shreve.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 2:00-4:00 PM at the funeral home.

  1. My ornery cousin-in-law Dave was marrieded to my cousin,Darlene.When ever you were some place he would whisle and you knew he was near by,you knew he was near with his shirl call. RIP MY FRIEND I will miss you.God be with Darlene,,David,Brittany,Jason and all his grandchildren. He will be missed.Love you my friend fish to you hearts content. Till we meet again ,.

  2. David and I had fun shooting numerous games of 8 ball in the past. When I saw him years later he thanked me for always addressing him as David. Some people gave him the nickname of D.K. which he never cared for.
    Couple of years ago I would occasionally see him at the downtown gas station and we would talk for a few minutes. So long my friend…we were kindred spirits.

  3. My condolences to the Kennedy family.
    Dave was one of the most genuine, kind and nicest person I remember growing up. They lived in our area, he was closer to my brother’s age. I worked with his mom at Horn’s Nursing Home, and would pass Dave at the Paint store. Always enjoyed seeing him.
    So sorry for your loss. Thinking of you all.
