Cody (Kodi) James Brenner, 37, of Wooster passed away Monday February 10, 2025, after his very long fought battle with depression.
He was born October 6, 1987, in Wooster Ohio to Holli Long and Hal Brenner.
Cody was, first and foremost, a father. He loved nothing more in this world than being a father to his son Eden and daughter Nova, as well as his stepdaughter Lily. He took pride in teaching his son his mechanical ways and how to be a man. He loved “cucu’ing” his daughter Nova and singing to her. He enjoyed picking on his stepdaughter, giving her new nicknames and taking her on daddy/ daughter dates. His favorite for Lily was calling her Robert. He always told them his number one job was to keep them safe, and we believe he will look over them and do just that.
He was raised initially in Wooster but ended up spending much of his young life in Apple Creek. He was raised by his loving grandmother and grandfather, Peggy and Dale Achamire. He attended Waynedale High School, of Apple Creek, and was a graduate of what should have been the class of 2006, but was ultimately 2007. He spent a lot of his younger years exploring the area and spreading laughter and humor through his mischief.
Cody spent the last few years working for Hagen Well Services of Wooster Ohio. He was very passionate about his work and loved and appreciated his coworkers. He spent a lot of time trying to find new ways to prank them and make them laugh. He was a hard worker – beyond his many smoke breaks – and was always willing to go in more to make sure things were completed. He worked in treacherous weather conditions, and for very long hours, for many years in the oil field to provide for his family, and make sure they were taken care of.
Cody spent a lot of his time in his garage working on and tinkering with things that did not need to be fixed (until he tinkered with them). He was able to fix almost anything he touched with a simple request of his friends, brother, or a quick YouTube view. He was a big teddy bear who gave the best hugs. He could change the entire mood of a space with his quick wit and amazing sense of humor. His smile and kind eyes could light up a room. He was always willing to extend a hand and help others. He loved to spend time with his kids, family, and friends, disc golfing with his best friend, thrift shopping, playing video games, going to see live music, traveling, fishing, going hiking, and playing Magic The Gathering with his friends.
Cody is survived by his children, Lily, Eden, and Nova of Wooster; his wife, Kaitlin Brenner of Wooster; Mother-in-law, Jenny Grimsley of Wooster; Brother-in-law, Brian Grimsley and his wife, Emily Grimsley of Ashland; Sister-in-law, Jillian Grimsley of Columbus; his mother, Holli Long of Wooster; his brother, Chris McIlvaine, his sister-in-law, Maria Hernandez, nephews, Taylor and Alex McIlvaine of Arkansas; his sister, Jamie McKevitt of Florida; his niece, Ashley Honeycutt and nephew, Skylar Honeycutt; his sister Gina Brenner and children of Florida; his grandfather, Dale Achamire of Apple Creek; his great aunts, Colleen Martin and Sara Speicher; his uncle, Reggie Brenner and aunt, Patty Brenner of Apple Creek, his cousins, Jordan Brenner of Canton, Jake Brenner and wife Crystal Brenner and her son Connor Washington of Wooster; his non-biological brothers, Kane Vaughan, Patrick McDonough, Philip Howiler, and Michael Howells and their families; and many, many loving, extended family members, on both his mother’s and father’s side, as well as his many adored friends.
He was proceeded in death by several family members at a young age, but, impactfully, his father, Hal Brenner, his great-uncle, James Speicher, his maternal grandfather Franklin W. Long, maternal grandmother Frances (Noble) Confere, and his paternal grandmother (who raised him as her own), Margaret Jean (Peggy Speicher) Achamire.
His family wants Cody to be remembered for his calm, gentle, and kind ways. There will never be words for how much he will be missed.
Funeral services will be private, under the circumstances, as requested by family, and to protect his children’s privacy during this very difficult time. The private services are for family and close friends only, again, due to the circumstances of his passing. However, because we know he was universally loved, there will also be a Celebration of Life in his memory in the summer, with more public details to come. All efforts will be made to spread this information to the many people who have inquired about a way to express their love. Friends and acquaintances will be welcome at this separate celebration.
Contributions may be directed to McIntire, Bradham, and Sleek, 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster, Ohio 44691 directly, or through his active GoFundMe.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mcintirebradhamsleek.com.

The childhood memories with Kodi were never a dull moment with us always causing trouble and having a blast doing it! Years later we ended up running into each other and it was like we picked up right where we left off. Such a beautiful soul with smile so contagious.

I first met Kodi when he was a senior in high school, working as a busser at TJ’s. Our team felt like a family, and Kodi was a big part of that—always bringing laughter while also being someone you could truly count on. I was very proud and admired the person he became over the years. He had such a kind and generous spirit. My heartfelt condolences to all who loved him. Rest in peace, my friend.
