John H. Russell, 77, passed away at his home in Huron on February 16, 2025, with his wife and children by his side. He was formerly from Wooster.
John was born on August 7, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Horace and Edith Russell. On January 17, 1970, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Slaga who survives.
He worked in the telecommunications industry as an engineer his entire career and retired as Vice President of ECSM in 2014. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was active in the community and served in different capacities in the Tri-County Bassmasters and Jr. Bassmasters. He enjoyed grilling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought joy and light into his life.
He is survived by his children Renee Bright (Greg) of Wooster, Ryan Russell (Patti) of Wadsworth and John Russell (Nicole) of Akron. He had 11 grandchildren Courtney Baummer (John), Morgan Stair (Shea), Austin Bright (Claire), Alex, Aidan, Alivia and Addison Russell, Trent Patterson, Preston, Anya Russell, and Draydon Price. He had 5 great grandchildren Camden (deceased), Clara, Magnolia, Nina Baummer and Leah, baby girl Stair due June 2025. They will all carry forward his love and legacy. He is also survived by his two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Russell, great grandson Camden Baummer and his beloved dogs, Mandy and Abby.
John will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
Friends will be received on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4:00-7:00PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 10:00AM at NorthWinds Church, 8691 Easton Rd., West Salem with Pastor Dave Purdy officiating.
