  27. Mrs. Hummell was an amazing teacher. She taught my 8th grade English class and had high expectations for everyone. I missed an assignment due date once that put my grade in jeopardy, and rather than write a pink slip that I would need to take to my parents, she asked me to stay after class where she told me she expected better work from me and knew I was capable of that. I knew I had caught a break from her, and made sure my performance in class improved. Later that year I wrote her a short note acknowledging what she had done, and how much I ended up enjoying her class. A few years later my brother and I were playing basketball with Todd in the Hummell’s driveway and Mr. Hummell pulled me aside and told me how much that note meant to Mrs. Hummell. She taught lessons that weren’t visible or appreciated until years later. Godspeed Mrs. Shirley Hummell.

Ms. Fike was my gym teacher in Orrville Junior High. We were all scared of her because of her strict approach. That being said she was my favorite!!!!!
I have loved her since and kept in contact with her. I am thankful for our last visit a couple months ago. It was always a pleasure to reminisce.
    Fly high Mrs. Hummel!!!!
