David Perry Hayhurst, 77, of Shreve, OH passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025. David was surrounded by family in Virginia.
Born and raised in Ohio, David was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War. He was a proud life member of the VFW.
After his military service David continued his career as a mechanic, working with All States Freight and 3D trucking. In retirement he enjoyed splitting his time between Ohio, Virginia and Sunny Florida.
David had a passion for tractors, he loved attending tractor pulls and working around the yard. He also painstakingly restored a classic Jeep – a project that brought him great pride. Above all, David loved his family deeply, especially his grandkids. He was the kind of person who took care of others, always willing to lend a hand.
During the winters he spent time in Florida with family and friends that are very dear to him. He truly enjoyed the memories made there with Jean Hayhurst and appreciated the time spent with them (especially Natalie).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Margaret Hayhurst; Beloved grandson David Hayhurst III; love of his life, Estora Hayhurst; brothers, Tom Hayhurst and Jim Hayhurst; sister, Lois McPherson; sister-in-law Carol Hayhurst.
David is survived by his children, David Hayhurst (Madison Banbury) and Sarah Koenig (Chad); grandchildren, Tyler Hayhurst, Kayla Swartzentruber (Kelsey), Brooke Fogle (Westin); great grandchildren, Geo Fogle, Vincent Koenig and two more expected soon. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Tuttle (Paul) and Martha Hammer (George); brother John Hayhurst (Gerri); sister-in-law, Jean Hayhurst; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, 4H kids, friends and coworkers who he loved dearly.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 7:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Wingate officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
