Alta Philis Bucher, 85, of Wooster died on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Orrville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born December 31, 1939, in East Union Twp., Wayne County to Irvin and Alta Moser Redinger.  On January 10, 1960, she married Roger E. Bucher.  He survives.

Alta was a 1957 graduate of Waynedale High School.  She retired from Wooster City Schools after more than 31 years as the Cook/Manager at Edgewood Jr. High. She was a 65 plus member of the Wooster United Methodist Church.  Alta was a 59 plus year member of the Emblem Club #374 where she served a four-year term as president.  Alta enjoyed many things including sewing, flower gardening, laying in the sun and shopping with her girls.  She was known for her baking and cooking, especially Christmas cookies, sauerkraut balls and her white Texas Sheet Cake.  Alta and Roger visited all 50 states.  She was very supportive of Roger and his time in the Reserves.  Alta’s favorite color was purple, and she never missed her standing hair appointments on Fridays with Connie.

Along with her husband, Roger, Alta is survived by her daughters Brenda S. (Todd) Bartley of Wooster and Jennifer L. (Larry) Booth of Wadsworth; grandchildren Jacob (Lily) Booth, Anna Booth, Chad, Alec Katherine and Kalob Himes; great grandchildren Louise Booth and Isabella Himes; sisters Marline Hinton, Judy Repp and Sharon (Paul) Woodruff; sister-in-law Bertie Redinger; brother-in-law Eugene Leyda along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Alta was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Arline Gordon, Pauline Blankenship, Maxine (Roger) Botkins Delpha (Donald) Haws, Richard (Shirley) Redinger, Donald Redinger and Elva Leyda.

An Emblem Club Service followed by a funeral service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Pioneer Cemetery in Ashland County.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to either Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to the Wooster Emblem Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 494, Wooster, OH 44691.

    I will miss her–she was a big support of my mother, her sister, Pauline. They were best friends along with sister Mac and Elva.

  22. We never met Alta, but we knew about her because Roger participated in the Wooster’s Alzheimer’s Support Group. We were touched by his kindness and his loving care as they walked through this awful journey. Our thoughts are with Roger and the family.
