Richard N. Tooley, 65, of Wooster, Ohio passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, with his loving family by his side, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and love. He was born in Wooster on March 17, 1960, to Minard Eugene Tooley and Connie (Elser) Bauer and attended Northwestern schools.

Richard’s life changed forever the day he stopped to help someone whose car had broken down on the side of the road. That act of compassion led him to meet Loren TateThough he didn’t know it at the time, she would become the love of his life, with whom he’d share 44 beautiful years and raise three daughters who were the pride and joy of his life. Richard and Loren were married on July 30, 1983, and together built a life filled with love and unforgettable memories.

Richard was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He was an owner/operator truck driver for 36 years. Even in retirement, his strong work ethic never wavered, and he went on to work at Smith Dairy.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents as well as his older brother, Robert Eugene Tooley.

He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 42 years, Loren (Tate) Tooley; his beloved daughters Nicole (Jon) Farthing of Monclova, Jessica (JD) Christy of Hillsboro and Danielle (Azaan) Ahmed of New York City, and five cherished grandchildren: Aubree, Zackary, Reid, Asher, and Piper, with a sixth grandchild (baby Christy) expected in December. He is also survived by his siblings Roger (Janet) Tooley of Fostoria, Ron Tooley of Wooster, Diane “Sis” (Ed) Armbrust of Wooster, Rex “Donnie” Tooley of Ravenna, and Jackie (Corry) Marett of Orlando, FL., and several nieces and nephews.

Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Per Rick’s wishes, a private service will be held with close family.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

  5. I’m gonna miss you, Rick. You taught me everything I know about trucking. For the short time of knowing you thank you for being a friend and an awesome coworker. We used to talk a lot about life and he would give me advice Riding in the passenger seat when I’m supposed to be working. But Rick always had something interesting to say and always gave me good advice. Rick, it was an honor being your friend. Save us a seat up there. Rest in peace your friend Jason Holbert

  6. Very sorry to read of Rick’s passing. Ronnie, Rick, and briefly Gene parked their rigs on our lot for years. I always enjoyed all of them and Rick usually had some interesting things going on. I was very sad when he called me in December to tell me his diagnosis. I wish the family the best and will not forget the Tooley’s. Rick was a great man and I will miss him.
