Helen McVey, 95, of Wooster, Ohio

Helen McVey, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Smithville Western Care Center after a period of declining health. Born on September 28, 1929, in Wooster, Ohio, she was the daughter of Alma and Beacher Carter.

Helen married the love of her life, Kenneth McVey, of September 16, 1950. They shared 38 wonderful years of marriage before Kenny’s passing in 1989. Helen was employed for many years at Lightning Rod Mutual Insurance Company in Wooster, where she built lasting friendships and contributed her talents to the community.

Helen found joy in life’s simple pleasures and creative pursuits. She was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed sewing and counted cross stitch, creating beautiful handmade treasures for her family. Her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of her delicious baking, and she took great pride in her flourishing garden. Helen was also an avid reader who found comfort and adventure in books throughout her life.

Helen will be deeply missed by her loving family. She is survived by her children: Susan Zarlengo of Wooster, Ric McVey (Nori) of Moreno Valley, California, and Bill McVey (Kim) of Creston. Her memory will live on through her grandchildren: Jennifer Moore of Newport, North Carolina, Kendra McVey of Creston, Christina McVey and Matthew McVey both of California, and Anika McVey Peterson of Arizona. She was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren who brought her immense joy.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Kenny; her brothers Cecil Carter, Verne Mohler, and Harry Carter; her son in law Steve Zarlengo; and her grandson Mark Zarlengo.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster. Interment to follow at Wooster Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
