Thomas Eric Ewing, 61, of Wooster passed away peacefully in his home at 11:37 AM Monday, July 14th, 2025. He was surrounded by his family and the Holy Spirit.
Tom courageously battled and lived with incurable cancer for over six years.
Tom was born April 25,1964 to William and Janice Ewing (Stiner). He was a 1982 graduate of Hillsdale High School and Capital University in 1986. Tom married Lucy Reed on November 5th, 1988, and they were blessed with two beautiful children.
He was an incredibly hardworking and loving man who lived by his faith. Many looked up to him not just for his tree-like stature, but by the gentle wisdom of his soul.
He made his second home at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), of Wooster, where he was Trustee Emeritus, served on the Senior Leadership committee, and raised his family. He was a servant leader in the deepest sense of the word. He greatly enjoyed serving others especially on disaster relief trips with his church family.
Tom worked many years in construction until he found his calling working for himself as a landscaper. He had an artistic gift working with stone retaining walls and patios and enjoyed his labor and the many clients he befriended over the years.
Tom maintained a lifelong spirit of curiosity, wonder, and determination that helped him live every day to the fullest. He enjoyed hiking, traveling, and being in God’s beautiful creation. Memories from family vacations and road trips held a special place in his heart.
Tom’s family and friends meant everything to him. He loved working with his son Zack and spending time with his daughter Erica. Tom’s nieces, nephews and his first granddaughter, baby Jade brought great joy to him. He had many wonderful memories of growing up with cousins. Tom maintained a goofy sense of humor that made all who knew him smile. He was sensitive to and deeply proud of the family and love that surrounded him.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws David and Dorothy Reed, his brother Mark, sister-in-law Jenise, several loved aunts and uncles, and his cousin Nelson Andrew Riedel.
He is survived by his loving wife Lucy, son Zachary (Olivia), daughter Erica; brother Todd Ewing, stepmother Carol Ewing, Lucy’s special aunt Sue Wohlford, his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also loved and survived by his sister-in-law Brenda (Cisco) Slepko, brother-in-law Frank (Becky) Reed, German exchange student daughter Alex (Sebastian) Leveau; nieces Lexi (Colby) Hinkle, Katie (Cody) Jarrett, Lorin Ewing, Delaney Reed; nephews Jeffrey (October) Needham, Joshua (Kristiann) Hau, Jonathan Ewing, Tristan Reed; His great nieces and nephews Izzy, Easton, Kat, Joie, Ellie, Emery, Jenise, Jude; and his beloved granddaughter Jade Ewing.
Tom will be deeply missed, but his spirit of love and passion for life will live on in all who knew and loved him. We give special thanks to our Lifecare Hospice team Erin, Destini, Christine, and Chaplain Daron and for all the support of his friends.
Funeral service to be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Central Christian Church, 407 N. Market St., Wooster with Rev. Joel Engman officiating. Interment is to follow at Wooster Cemetery after the service.

Lucy, Erica, and Zach, Tom was a skilled builder of beautiful stone and brick walks and walls, that because they were so

Lucy, Zach, and Erica,
Thinking of you all and so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. Nick and I have always looked up to Tom and to the example he set. Individually, and as a couple, you have had a quietly oversized influence on us as role models. Wishing you the best and hope to see you soon.

Our deepest sympathy to the Ewing family on the loss of Tom. He worked on our yard and was so brave and positive as he did so. He was an inspiration in my husband’s battle with cancer. Zach was also such a help. Both were just a joy to have around. I am saddened to hear that he lost his fight, and know he will be very much missed by all that knew him. RIP.
Lucy,
We are so very sorry for your loss. May the Lord comfort you during this time.
