Rebecca Gadsden (Becca) 81 years old passed away Monday, September 1, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare.  She was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1944 to her parents Lucielle and Edward Simmons.

She attended Buist Academy and continued on to Burke High School.  Rebecca worked as a cook and a CNA (certified nurse’s assistant) for Horn Nursing Home and Westview Manor.  In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making quilts.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lucille & Edward Simmons; her daughter Meredath Kennedy; her siblings Alphonso Blake, Edward Blake, Alfred Simmons, Ernel Simmons, Barbra Simmons, Gardenia Evans and Margurite Simmons.

Survived by her husband Marion Gadsden; one son Marion (Sandy) Gadsden Jr.; siblings Leola Simmons, Jerry Simmons (Pam Simmons), Lutrell Simmons, and Martha Fraiser; Cousin Gloria Wilson; sister-in-law Ernestine House and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There are to be no services.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St. Wooster is assisting the family.

  2. Jim and I remember, with fondness, Rebecca when she worked at Horn’s. She was a good person and an equally good employee. May she rest peacefully.
