Mary Christine “Chris” Guili passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025. She was the proud “Mom” of three children, Lisa, Michael, and Laura, and the deeply loved “Grandma” to her grandchildren, Max and Enzo.

Chris was born at Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma City, the daughter of a career Air Force pilot. Her childhood was filled with adventure as she moved extensively, living in Florida, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Mississippi, Illinois, and most memorably, the Territory of Hawaii.

After graduating from the College of Wooster in 1966, Chris joined the American Red Cross and volunteered for the SRAO (Supplemental Recreation Activities Overseas) program, serving in Vietnam. She was one of only 627 women to take part in this program during the entire length of the war. It was there she met her husband, John, with whom she shared nearly 58 years of marriage.

Before raising a family, she poured herself into child and family social work, which influenced her enduring advocacy for child welfare and emboldened her ongoing commitment to volunteer pursuits. Throughout her life, Chris gave generously of her time and talents, serving in community, church, and school organizations, and as a devoted Girl Scout leader for over 25 years.

Beyond her service, Chris was known for her love of life’s simple joys. A voracious reader, she could always be found with a book in hand. She relished playing Scrabble and Backgammon, where her sharp mind and quick wit were on full display. She traveled extensively, eager to see the world and embrace new experiences. At home, she poured her heart into creating beauty and comfort—whether tending to vibrant flower gardens, lovingly decorating the family home for every season, or cherishing her treasured Christmas ornament collection, each piece chosen to mark a special memory. Chris found creative expression in knitting and was especially known for her beautifully crafted baby blankets and booties, as well as the stylish scarves she created for family and friends. Her home was always filled with the warmth of delicious baking, and with the joy of animals, especially the many beloved dogs and cats who were part of the family over the years. She had a particular soft spot for Rudy, her orange tabby rescue, who was utterly devoted to her.

Chris also valued the art of thoughtful connection. She had a deep love of written correspondence and greeting cards, taking special care to remember anniversaries, birthdays, and meaningful milestones. Chris delighted in choosing just the right card and filling it with a personal note that made each recipient feel seen and celebrated.

Above all, Chris cherished her family. She treasured time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, filling their lives with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. One of the things her children remember most is how she was always the first to laugh at the dinner table, listening intently and finding joy in every story shared. Her laughter was a signal of how fully present she was in the spirited conversation. As Grandma, Chris always made time to play countless board games with her grandsons. It was a joyous bond they shared and looked forward to during every visit. Chris will be remembered as a woman of grace, warmth, and quiet strength—someone whose presence enriched every life she touched.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Major Richard and Mary Schuth. She is survived by her husband John; her daughters Lisa and Laura; her son Michael and daughter-in-law Lily; and her grandchildren Max and Enzo. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda (Robert) Predmore and Susan (Joel) Cutler, and her brother-in-law, Louis Guili.
