Alton (Tony) Leo Burkhart

On October 2, Alton “Tony” Leo Burkhart of Moreland, Ohio was called to his heavenly home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Zanesville, Ohio on October 15, 1946, to Luther and Virginia Burkhart. Tony lived a life marked by service, hard work, deep faith and a boundless love for his family and animals.
A proud Marine, Tony served his country stateside during the Vietnam War- an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty and compassion. After his time served in the Marines, he worked for many years in the oil fields and later drove semi-truck which took him on new adventures all around the United States.
Alton eventually left truck driving due to health concerns, but he didn’t slow down. He began hauling Amish families and later took pride in his work at P. Graham Dunn. For a short time, he worked with Chris and Mitch at McIntire, Davis and Green. Always active and engaged, Tony was a faithful member of Moreland United Methodist Church, where his passion for the Lord shone brightly. He was also a dedicated volunteer for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, a cause close to his heart.
Tony was a man who loved his country, his faith, his dogs and a barnyard full of animals including horses, donkey, chickens, turkeys and a few spoiled cats.
He is survived by his 5 daughters Lisa (Bobby) Prewitt his granddaughter Bailey (Andrew) Zaluski and his great granddaughters Cora and Camryn, daughter Michelle (Chuck) Beckler, his grandson Brock, daughter Melissa McKnight grandchildren Gabe, Avery, Morgan and Elizabeth, daughter Jackie (Rob) Hamilton granddaughters Presley and Pyper, daughter Alison (Mark) Wilson grandchildren Ruger and Benelli. He is also survived by his sister Jackie (Keith) Woodruff of Dalton, brother Dan (Nancy) Burkhart of Moreland, many nieces and nephews and his wife Tammy and his dog Lucy.
Tony was proceeded in death by his parents Luther and Virginia Burkhart.
A man of steady kindness, humble service, and deep love, Tony will be remembered for his hearty laugh, helping hands, and quiet strength that defined his life.

Memorial Service to be held Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 12:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Rev. Tom Fish officiating. Inurnment to follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Saying goodbye to a loved one is hard, but knowing they are going to be with the Lord is such a comforting feeling. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. God be with you!

I really didn’t know him, but heard many good things. He was very much loved by his daughters. I meant him just a couple times.

Condolences to the Burkhart Family. Our acquaintances with Al and his family during our times at Franklin School. While attending a performance at the school to begin AL and I discovered both of us had been on a Amphibious Operation ‘Steel Pike’ off the coast of Spain 1964 on different ships. 🎶 Amazing Grace how sweet the sound🎶 i’ll always remember your dad singing this. I know it’s a sad time but you girls did an amazing job of caring for your dad with love and compassion and I’m sure one day he will tell you
how proud he was of you and how much he loved you so in the next few days rejoice and celebrate his life and memories. Let the tears you shed be happy ones that he is no longer in pain and did not dwell for very long and he’s where he wanted to be in the arms of his savior Jesus Christ.
