Ethel L. Price, age 89, of Wooster formerly of Orrville, OH passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Ethel accepted Christ at a young age, building a lifelong foundation of faith that shaped her character, her service, and her love for others. After settling in Wooster with her husband, James C. Price, she united with Second Baptist Church, where she became a devoted and beloved member for more than 60 years.
Ethel served faithfully in many ministries. She sang joyfully in the Senior Choir, served on the Usher Board, and worked diligently as Superintendent of the Sunday School as well as a Sunday School Teacher. She also devoted herself to Vacation Bible School, sharing the love of Christ with children year after year. Wherever there was a need in the church, Ethel willingly stepped in —no questions asked. Her service was not just what she did; it was a reflection of who she was in the Lord.
A woman of many gifts, Ethel enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, and putting puzzles together. She approached every activity with patience, kindness, and a generous spirit.
Ethel was a devoted wife and mother. Through her union with James Cephas, they were blessed with six beautiful children: Enola G., Vicky R. (Michael) Steele, Gwynne K., James Curry, Claverian C., and Stacy L. She ensured her children stayed active in both church and school, guiding them with strong faith and steady love. She remained deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren throughout her lifetime.
She was blessed with 14 grandchildren, Christopher, Veronica, Trammell, Damion, Brandon, Quintin (Lauren), Ronetrie, Jasmine (Roberto), Duke (Emily), Niya, Timia (Asa), Candis, Hannah and Rebekah; 15 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was also lovingly known as “Aunt Ethel” to a host of nieces, nephews, and Cousin Ethel to others, all of whom cherished her dearly.
She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings; Roy “Butch” (Diana) Coleman of Garden City, Michigan, Toni Coleman of Akron, Ohio, and Michael Perkins of Washington.
Throughout her life she held several positions, including employment at Apple Creek Developmental Center, Gerstenslager, Head Start, and Nutrition Extension. She was also a Tupperware and Mary Kay representative. She later settled into her role at Bell & Howell, where she eventually retired. Retirement did not slow her down for long; she continued serving her community by working for Wooster City Schools as a substitute custodian and teacher’s aide.
Ethel was blessed with many friendships throughout her life. Among them were her special friends, Henry Davis, Patsy Price, Elizabeth Anne Saunders, and Ernestine House, who held a cherished place in her heart.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, James Price; parents Levi (Lovi) Perkins and Thelma Johnson; her grandparents, Curry and Alma Barnett; siblings Michael Coleman and Michelle Coleman and her beloved daughters, Enola and Gwynne.
Ethel’s life was one of faith, service, love, and dedication. She touched countless lives through her kindness, her willingness to serve, and her unwavering commitment to the work of the Lord. Her memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Second Baptist Church, 245 S. Grant St., Wooster with Pastor Gary DeHart officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Wooster Cemetery.

I was so sorry to read of Ethel’s passing. She was a beautiful soul with whom I first became acquainted by her attending my Aquacize class outdoors in Freedlander Pool. I looked forward to seeing her enjoyment of being in the water, as well as when I would run into her at a variety of places around Wooster. No matter what she faced personally, she always minimized her problem with a smile. I always enjoyed her kind, sweet demeanor and will miss running into her. My deepest condolences to Clay and to Ethel’s entire family. May peace and love abide with you all.
Prayers to the Price family. She was an amazing woman. And just heard about Jamie. My thoughts are with you all
I loved my Aunt very much.
