Charles Carmichael, also known as Sonny and Mike, age 91, of Wooster, OH and Naples, FL died Wednesday,  December 24, 2025 in Naples, FL.

He was born January 31, 1934 in Pike, West Virginia to Randall and Louise Martin Carmichael.  On November 6, 1981 he married Jill Smith who survives.  Sonny served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 and in Army Reserves from 1957-1963.

Sonny started his career in the retail lumber business at The Wooster Lumber Company while still in High School before moving on to The Jones Building Center and ultimately finishing his career as an owner of Northwood Lumber.  He loved watching his children, grands and greats play a variety of sports and show various animals.  Sonny also loved golfing with his Wooster and Florida buddies.

He was a member of Wooster Elks Lodge #1346 and was inducted into the Wooster High School Hall of Fame in 2004.

Along with his wife, Sonny is survived by his daughter Renee (Gary) Gwinn; daughter-in-law Christine Carmichael;  grandchildren Cory (Val) Carmichael, Jessica (Zach) Bolinger, Shelby (Craig) Prater, Lauren (Keenan) Wolf, Anne (Austin) Garber, Amanda (Rick) Clark, David (Tammy) Gwinn and Ginger (Levi) Troyer; great-grandchildren Will Carmichael, Brynlee, Kyler and Hayes Bolinger, Cam, Colson and Keegan Prater; brother-in-law Jeff (Patrice) Smith; nieces Season (Brian) Cheeseman; Jordan Smith; nephews Brian (Nichole) Dawe and Kevin Dawe.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-father Pete Mowrer; son Rick Carmichael; brother Frank “Bud” Carmichael; mother and father-in-law Mike and Jackie Smith.

The family would like to send their gratitude to Avow Hospice in Naples, FL as well as the doctors and staff at Naples Community Hospital.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 5:30-7:30 PM in the Excelsior Room, 144 W. Liberty St., Wooster.

Private inurnment will be held in Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Sonny’s name.
