Larry Dean Troyer Age 87, Wooster, Ohio

Larry Dean Troyer, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on February 01, 2026. He was born September 22, 1938, to Carl W and Ruth T McCullough Troyer, in Wayne County Ohio where he lived most of his life.

Larry served four years in the US Navy with two years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte where he operated the number 1 control station on the flight deck which caught the tail hooks of the planes as they landed.

He then transferred to the Naval Air Station in Brunswick Georgia that trained Navy pilots how to fly the large Airships (blimps). He worked as an aviation storekeeper and when landing ships came in, or were launched, he was the man on top of the large mast that held the locking mechanism to the nose of the ship. It held the airship to the mast so it could be maneuvered and taken back into the hanger.

He was discharged as a petty officer 3rd class.

Larry was sworn in as a Wooster City Fireman in 1967 where he served for 8½ years. Later he served as the GIS Director for the Wayne County Auditor, from which he retired in 2004.

In 1966 Larry was married to Francine Miller Troyer who survives. They enjoyed 59 years in a growing relationship of marriage. They have no children, but always enjoyed making a home for cats in need of some comfort and love.

In his free time Larry enjoyed fishing. But his main interest in life was being a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, whom he cherished and served for 59 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two brothers, Arthur (Carol) Troyer of Knoxville TN, Nevin Troyer of Orrville OH, and a sister Donna Walker of Winona Lake IN, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

Larry has requested no calling hours and no services.

A special thank you to Ohio’s Hospice Life Care team for their wonderful support.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

  9. Francine, I was saddened to learn of Larry’s passing. He was always such a friendly and kind person to me. I bought a home from you both on Troyer Court! He came to our rescue when a water pipe burst, and was just always the nicest person, ready to help any time. The world will miss him. Bless you Francine and I offer you my deepest sympathy with all my heart.
