Karen Sandra Karvonen of Wooster passed away on April 10, 2026 at age 79 after a period of declining health, at The Avenue Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on May 1, 1946, to Allen and Romayne Wolfe Schramm in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from high school in St. Clairsville with the class of 1964. She later attended Wooster Business College, and had a 20 plus year career with the Social Security Administration, retiring in 1999.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Jeremy Scot. She is survived by daughter Sandra Kasper, son James Poling, granddaughter Stephanie (Opliger) Sigman, great grandson Brent Woodhull, great granddaughter Ally Opliger, and beloved canine son Willie.

Karen was a skilled pianist and former active member of local music clubs. She was also active for many years in the American Legion Auxiliary in Apple Creek. Karen enjoyed enduring friendships with many former coworkers and loved their frequent lunch meetings.

Karen chose to be cremated. McIntire, Bradham, and Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting.  The family will hold a celebration of life on May 1st from 4pm – 6pm at NewPointe Community Church in Wooster Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wayne County Dog Shelter.

  3. Karen is probably playing a mean piano in heaven right now. Sending prayers and comfort your way. I will miss her beautiful smile and sparkly blue eyes.
