Lawrence “Larry” Robert Oxenrider, 75, passed away April 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Larry, of Wooster, Ohio, was born on July 30, 1950, and was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (McBroom) Oxenrider, and his father, John D. Oxenrider. Larry studied at Kent State University and Arizona State University. Larry began a career that spanned many years working for companies like Lox Construction and retired from Axalta.
Larry married the love of his life, his wife Carla (Helton) Oxenrider, and made many wonderful memories with her over their 42 years of marriage.
Larry’s legacy was that of service to his local community. He was bestowed the honor of Scouter of the Year by the Buckeye Council. He was Scout Master of Wooster Scout Troop 65 for many years and mentored many Eagle Scouts over his tenure. Larry was also an involved member of the Wooster Elks Lodge # 1346 for 44 years, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and invested his time in programs and initiatives to better those around him.
In addition to being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant to the community, Larry enjoyed pursuing his many hobbies. He loved to travel locally and abroad. When home he was an avid golfer who shot a hole in one, an experienced fisherman, and gardener who enjoyed entering his dahlias in the Wayne County Fair. He loved playing with his dogs and pursued time in the outdoors – especially mushroom hunting, and camping. He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and closely followed each season.
Larry is loved and survived by his wife, Carla; his daughter, Jessica; his son, James (Diana); his grandchildren, Kyea, Emily, and Robert; his sisters, Susanne and Amy; his nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Larry’s Life at 4pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Wooster Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to:

Always keeping everyone on their toes, waiting to see what shenanigans he was going to pull next. A huge loss for our community as Larry so actively donated his time for the causes that he was passionate about. We would go from talking about scouting to looking at pictures of the flowers he grew. Very diversified one of a kind person – just a great friend to all.
He loved, he laughed and he genuinely cared about people. Just a great man and a huge loss. My condolences to Carla & the entire family.
Rest in peace old buddy! You will be missed!
