Richard E. Cannon, 79, of Wooster died on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the Smithville-Western Care Center.

He was born May 19, 1946 in Wooster to Joseph A. and Ruth Anfang Cannon. On October 11, 1969 he married Maureen Factor. She survives.

Richard graduated from Wooster High School in 1964 and graduated from the Wooster Business College. He worked at Akron Brass in Wooster for 47 years, retiring as the Materials Manager.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a former Grand Knight. Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in Canada, and followed Ohio sports. He also coached Little League baseball at Miller Field for many years.

Richard is survived by his children Kathleen A. (Dave Gunkelman) Bache of Burbank, Kristina M. (Tim) Pettorini of Wooster, Tim R. (Robin) Cannon of Wooster, William J. Cannon of North Carolina, and Shaun P. (Courtney) Cannon of Stonewall, Louisiana; siblings James (Judy) Cannon of Mifflin, Ohio and Joseph (Amy) Cannon of Wooster; grandchildren Katelyn, Kirsten, Karlie, Tyler, Tori, Tanner, Ryan, Nathan, Autym, Addie, Sydney, Karson, Kara, Kinley, and Kash; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 11:30 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Father David Chojnacki officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of service at the church on Monday.

  6. Dick and I were classmates from 1st grade at St Mary’s School through high school. Then we remained close friends through age 22 through the Young Catholic Adults. I haven’t seen him since I left Wooster in 1969 but I have many fond memories of his kindness, his goodness and his friendship.
    Dick had a life well lived. God bless his family.

  7. I worked with Dick at Akron Brass back in the 1970s. He was such a nice and good man to work with. All the family are in my prayers for peace and comfort from God at this very difficult time. Keep all the good memories close to your heart.

  8. I was very saddened to hear about Dick’s passing. I not only worked with him at Akron Brass also for 47 years, but we enjoyed playing softball together. A lot of great memories to keep. My condolences to the families.
