Sonia Ann Solomonoff, 92, of Wooster passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Brookdale after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born July 5, 1933 in Cleveland to Edward and Josephine Andel.

Sonia was a former resident of Richfield; she graduated from Revere High School then moved to Cleveland.  She received a B.S. from Kent State and Master degrees in both Social Science and Library Science from Case Western Reserve University. She had a long career and retired as a librarian from the law library at Case Western Reserve University in 1999.  Sonia moved to Wooster in 2001 where she volunteered at the Fredericksburg Community Library and Wooster Community Hospital.  She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Wayne County and a former member of the Wayne County Democratic Women’s Caucus.

She was a very generous, caring, humanitarian as she donated not only her time and skills to many, many organizations.

Sonia is survived by her son Alex Solomonoff of Somerville, MA; daughter-in-law Carola Solomonoff of Nassau, NY; nieces Amy Boreman of Wooster, Kay (Robert) Moore of Charlotte, NC, Carol Eash of Orrville, Diana (Alan) Millington of Powell; nephews Steve (Julie) Raines of Shirley, AR, Keith Wilson of Grafton, WV and her longtime good friend Betty Schuler of Wooster.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Nicole; son David; sister Barbara Wilson; brother-in-law Robert C. Wilson.

Private family services will be held.

McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

The family requests the in lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Wayne County Humane Society, 1161 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to Friends of the Wooster Library, 304 N. Market St., Wooster, OH 44691 or to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

  2. So impressed with all that Sonia accomplished in her life. She was a very good person. And I know that her son David (my late husband) loved her deeply.
