Annemarie Heckman, age 96, of Wooster, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 13, 1929, in Klosterbrück Germany, Annemarie was the daughter of the late Alfons and Paulina Marynik. Growing up during World War II and witnessing many of its hardships and horrors shaped her into the strong, resilient woman she would remain throughout her life.

At the age of 22, Annemarie married and left her homeland to begin a new life in the United States. Within a few years, she welcomed four children into the world and devoted herself to raising them with the values she held most dear. While she understood the occasional childhood mischief, certain things were non-negotiable: honesty, respect for others, and kindness. One rule her children never forgot was that you never called someone stupid.

Her husband, Robert, and their children were the center of her universe. Known affectionately as “Mutti,” Annemarie never stopped “vorrying” about her children—from their earliest years through adulthood. Every personal and professional endeavor was closely followed, celebrated, and encouraged. She was always there to applaud their successes and offer comfort when life brought challenges.

Time spent with Annemarie was often filled with laughter, stories from her childhood, and one, two, or sometimes more glasses of red wine. When the mood struck, she would pull out her beloved Hohner accordion and entertain family and friends with traditional German folk songs, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

In 2015, Annemarie suffered the devastating loss of her eldest daughter, Janet, to cancer. The loss shattered her heart, and she often expressed how wrong it felt for a parent to outlive a child. Though the grief never completely left her, Annemarie’s remarkable strength, determination, and resilience enabled her to continue living fully and finding joy in the people she loved most.

A faithful member of Wayne Presbyterian Church, Annemarie developed many friendships throughout the years. Family remained the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Outside of family, Annemarie was passionate about exercise and gardening. Well into her late eighties, she swam daily and often joked about passing the “old people” who could not keep up with her. She also took great pride in cultivating beautiful flower gardens, and fresh blooms from her garden could often be found brightening her home.

In her final days, Mutti continued doing what she had done her entire life—caring for those she loved. She reassured her family that she was ready, urged them not to be sad, and reminded them to take good care of Bob. Her faith gave her comfort, and she looked forward to being reunited with her beloved daughter Janet and all those who had gone before her.

Annemarie is survived by the love of her life, her husband Robert Heckman; her son Michael McClintock (Robyn) of Wooster, Ohio; her daughters Claudia McClintock of Grand Junction, Colorado and Debora Summers (Nevin) of Anchorage, Alaska; her daughter-in-law Merkle Muller of Harpswell, Maine; her sister-in-law Gisela Marynik of Krefeld, Germany; as well as many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet McClintock; her parents, Alfons and Paulina Marynik; her sister, Hedel Wlotzka; and her brothers, Achim Marynik and Helmut Marynik.

Annemarie lived a full and extraordinary life and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those who share her faith find comfort in the belief that they will one day be reunited with her in heaven, where they will raise a glass, share a laugh, and, if they are lucky, hear her play a German folk song on her accordion once again.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 1:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Pastor Bob Meyer officiating.

Friends will be received from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Friday.
