Paulette E. Douglas, 78, of Wooster passed away on July 5, 2026, at Brookdale Senior Living, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on March 17, 1948, in Charleroi, PA to Dr. Jack and Dorothy Rehula-Hoyes.
Following graduation from California, PA State College, she began her teaching career with the Wooster City Schools as an elementary physical education teacher. She then became the third-grade teacher at St. Mary School, retiring in 2010.
Paulette enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, hook-a-rug, summer trips to the ocean, and the 20 seasons spent at O’Dell Lake. She enjoyed time spent with friends and family, especially her granddaughters. She was an active member in the Wooster Emblem Club for many years, serving twice as the Emblem Club’s President.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald; children Lara (Scott) of Wellington OH and Patrick (Nicole) of Huntersville, NC; a brother John (Karen) of California, PA; grandchildren Larren and Scotlyn Rounds of Wellington, OH; niece Katie (Brandon) of Pittsburgh, PA; and a nephew Travis (Sami) of Gulf Breeze, FL.
The family wishes to thank the staff at both Ohio’s Hospice Life Care and Brookdale Senior Living for all of their care.
An Emblem Club service and a Catholic eulogy will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends following the service.

I have been blessed with a wonderful mother, but I have also been blessed in my life with a few very special mothers who adopted me as their own. Paulette was one of my special mothers. I enjoyed every single minute I spent with her and every single conversation I had with her. As a young single teacher living on his own for the first time, I appreciated her home-cooked meals and motherly advice. So sorry to hear of Paulette’s passing. I knew her when our mother’s became friends at Brookdale. She loved her grand girls and spending time at Odell’s Lake. She was a very special lady.

Ron and Paulette were (are!) great neighbors, and it was easy to cooperate with things such as yardwork. Right now I’m remembering some little routines we had. For a while, they would buy themselves a pizza on Friday nights; then tell me it was too much and give me the remaining pieces!
Paulette worked steadily at life: children, jobs, grandchildren, house, keeping herself fit with exercise, Emblem Club. None of those are small things!
When she was slowing down and then got her sad diagnosis, she never complained when I visited. In those last few days, she mustered her strength to whisper: Thanks for coming.
A life well lived that is leaving a big hole behind!
