Yvonne Ann (Beery) Brown, 91, of West View Healthy Living in Wooster, OH, passed onto her Heavenly home on July 18, 2026, after a continuing decline in health.

Yvonne was born in Parsons, WV, on May 22, 1935, to Moffett and Dessie (Baker) Beery. She graduated from Parsons High School, where she was head cheerleader. During her senior year, she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Brown. They married on October 2, 1955 in Washington D.C., where Jim had been stationed while serving in the U.S. Army’s CIC.

Yvonne began her career in public service while working in the secretary pool for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters in Washington, D.C. She also worked as a secretary at the Marine base in Quantico. Once Yvonne and Jim‘s daughter Sharon was born in 1960, they were living in Morgantown, WV, where Yvonne stayed home to care for her. In 1969, they moved to Wooster and Yvonne returned to the workforce in the mid 1970’s as a secretary at The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (OSU ATI).

Yvonne was a woman of immense creativity and community spirit. A natural artist, she enjoyed painting, sketching and many types of crafts, playing the piano, and tending to her flower gardens. One summer, she shared her talents by hosting an art class for her daughter‘s neighborhood friends, and participated in Wooster’s Art in the Park. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Wooster and active in the United Methodist Women, the Viola Thorne Club, and Welcome Wagon. Yvonne loved hosting family gatherings, playing Bridge late into the night with friends, and welcoming Jim’s grad students during his time as a Professor at the OARDC.

Family was the center of Yvonne’s world. She and Jim lovingly babysat their granddaughter, Angela, while Sharon and Rick worked. Yvonne adored their time together, often calling Angela her “little social butterfly” because the two of them loved going out to visit Yvonne‘s many friends and neighbors. Deeply generous with her time, Yvonne also volunteered in the gift shop at the Wooster Community Hospital, frequently bringing Angela along to “work“ with her.

Yvonne truly made friends wherever she went and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Jim; her sister, Margaret “Peggy;” and her brothers, William “Billy” and Bobby, all of West Virginia.

Surviving are her brother, Fred Beery of Davis, WV; her daughter, Sharon (Mark) Norman of New Philadelphia, OH; her granddaughter, Angela, and Angela‘s father, Rick Beaudoin, of Apple Creek, OH; and her special cousins, Darlene Simmons Kelchak (George) of Morgantown, WV, and Margaret Ann (Clair) Muscaro and Kathy Klamut (Joe), all of Gahanna, OH; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins from the West Virginia area.

Per Yvonne‘s wishes, there will be no funeral service, calling hours, or graveside service. McIntire, Bradham, & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is handling the arrangements.

A memorial for Yvonne will be held at West View Healthy Living in the Chapel on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 1 PM. All family, friends, and caregivers are welcome to attend.

The family extends their gratitude to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare of Wooster for their compassion and support during Yvonne‘s last days. They also wish to especially thank the nurses, aides, and staff at West View Healthy Living for their exceptional care. Hearing so many wonderful stories about Yvonne from the staff over the past few weeks has been a great comfort to the family.
