Charles “Chuck” James Vizzo of Wooster, Ohio, passed away at his home on August 31, 2026.
He was born September 28, 1953, the fourth child of Gladys Rumbaugh Vizzo Ringler and Paul Vizzo. He was grateful to his stepfather, Howard Ringler, who helped raise him and his siblings after his father died at an early age.
Chuck graduated from Wooster High School in 1972 and received the Block W Award for lettering in baseball and football. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1972 to 1974 with an artillery division in Germany.
He worked in construction and was known for his skill in concrete work. That work led him to build his own house. Most recently he drove Amish children to and from school. He enjoyed being around the kids; the things they said and did always made him laugh.
Chuck was known for his love of old classic cars, and one old car was never enough. He enjoyed working on cars and attending car shows. His boys have great memories of camping with him at the larger Rod Runs.
Family was always important to him, and he was proud of his family’s history. He traced his mother’s side of the family back to the Morgans, early settlers of the area, and his father’s family, Italian immigrants. You could not go anywhere around town without him telling a story about how one of his ancestors was tied to a certain building, company, or house.
Above all, Chuck would want his family to know how deeply he loved and cared for them. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Paul Vizzo; his stepfather, Howard Ringler; his brothers Fred and Tom Vizzo; his brother-in-law Ron Leaman; his nephew Josh Vizzo; and his great-niece Emerson Vizzo.
He is survived by his sons, William (Meichi) Vizzo and Nicholas “Nick” Vizzo; his grandchildren, Sean and Michelle Vizzo, all of Apex, North Carolina; his siblings Jon (Peggy) Vizzo, Joanne Leaman, Jeff (Julie) Vizzo, and Dan (Sherry) Vizzo; his sister-in-law Susan Vizzo; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to Wooster Youth Baseball, where he had fond memories of playing with his best friend, William Lewis. Chuck and I shared the same birthday and he was a great friend in high school. My condolences to all his family and loved ones.
Fond memories of early 60s with Chuck, Billy Lewis, and me walking to Mauer Field for football games.
Chuck and I were in the same graduating class and then ended up stationed at the same Army base in Bamberg, Germany. I didn’t get to see him much as my unit was always in the field. Chuck had a ton of personality and never met a stranger. He was good to everybody. Godspeed my friend.
Chuck was a great guy. Sorry for the families loss. RIP brother. You will be missed-Keith Fry
Chuck was definitely one of the good guys. Lots of fond memories from high school and beyond. I will miss him greatly. I remember when he got out of the army I was living out at Mrs Lewis’s at Town and Country for Christmas break and Chuck drove his old nova there without any heater in it. He was frozen when he arrived and he was wearing like three layers of clothes. We had a good laugh about it. Rest in peace my friend.
So sorry for his passing to his family. Remember him well from WHS
I have fond memories of our families attending Trinity together. My sympathy and prayers are with you all.

This is a touching tribute, especially the memories that show how much Chuck’s personality stayed with the people around him. I liked the stories about his old cars, his years in the Army, and how much he enjoyed being around the children he drove to school. The personal comments from former classmates and friends make it clear he was someone who made people feel welcome and left behind many good memories. My condolences to his family and everyone who knew him. 12 class result is also a reminder of how school years can create friendships and memories that stay with people for decades. What memory of Chuck stands out most to those who knew him?
Shocked and saddened to hear of Chuck’s passing. The touching tribute is pure testament to a life well lived. There is some comfort in knowing that he is reunited with friends (Bill) and family who have gone on before him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
