Cheryl Barr (Caskey), 62, passed away on September 24, 2026, following health complications related to her long and courageous battle with scleroderma.
Born on June 30, 1964, Cheryl was the daughter of Leroy Caskey and Mary Witmer. For 37 years, Cheryl fought a hard-fought battle against scleroderma and other illnesses with a strength and determination that defined so much of her life but an inspiration to all those that knew her. While her illness was a part of her story, it never defined who she was. Cheryl was so much more—she was a daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who loved her family deeply and wholeheartedly.
Cheryl was a true family person. Her greatest joy came from spending time with the people she loved, especially her grandchildren. She treasured the moments spent together, the memories made, and the simple things that brought everyone together.
She had many passions and little things that made her uniquely Chertals. She was a devoted San Francisco 49ers fan and proudly cheered them on. She loved riding horses, the color purple, lions, arts and crafts, and her beloved cat, “Little Bit.” She also had a special love for pineapple cheesecake. Above all, Cheryl loved her family and the time she was able to share with them.
Though Cheryl’s journey was marked by many difficult days, she leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, laughter, and family moments that will never be forgotten. Her fight showed her incredible strength, but it was her heart, her love for her family, and the memories she created with those around her that will be her lasting legacy.
She may no longer be here to cheer on her 49ers, enjoy her favorite purple things, ride horses, make crafts, or share a slice of pineapple cheesecake with the people she loved— her presence will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
Cheryl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her mother, Mary Witmer; her daughters, Crystal Barr of Wooster and Brittany (Jeff) Wilcox-Saxon of Mansfield; and her five grandchildren, Hallie Wilks, Damion Fetters, Holdan Wilcox, Anthony Barr, and Gabriel Quinteros.
She is also survived by her siblings, Deb Neuhaus, Larry Hurn, Majel (Arlindo) Basil, Kim (Rick) Owen, Brian Caskey, Warren (Heidi) Caskey, Becky Caskey, Rosemarie Caskey, and Amy (Chad) Thompson, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and extended family and friends who will carry her memory with them.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Caskey, and her stepfather, Sam Witmer.
Friends and family may call on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00am at McIntire Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home 216 E Larwill St, Wooster, OH 44691 with funeral services immediately following at 12:00pm. A private graveside service will follow for family in Ashland Cemetery, Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online to the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Scleroderma Foundation, in honor of Cheryl and her 37-year fight against scleroderma.

My condolences and prayers for you and your family.
I’m saddened to read this. I knew Cheryl in school and worked together for a short time many years ago.
I remember visiting her in the hospital when she was ill and watched her fight so hard.
