WOOSTER Elizabeth J. Betty Dush, 98, of Wooster passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Ohio s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster.
She was born October 22, 1920 in Columbia Station, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Jesse Dimmick Churchward. She married Robert Bob Dush on November 20, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2011.
Betty was a 1941 graduate of The Ohio State University and had been a school teacher in Wooster City Schools for 30 years teaching the 2nd grade at Grant Street Elementary. She was a very active 71 year member of the Wooster United Methodist Church where she played in the Bell Choir.
She was a founding member of the Mother s Club, was a passionate bridge player, enjoyed golf and had made over 100 scrapbooks for her family. Betty also enjoyed wintering in Florida.
Surviving are her children, Ann (James) Arndt of Tavares, Florida, Roger (Rita Bauer) Dush of Wooster and Nancy (Randall) Hopkins of Cedar Hill, Texas; grandchildren, Susan (Mark) Gorman, Karen (Erik Noonburg) Arndt, Gregory Dush, Tracy (Jared Siebert) Dush, Julie (Matt) Kilbourne, Thomas (Jen Murray) Cook, David (April) Hopkins and Elizabeth (Liam) Cryan;17 great-grandchildren and her caregivers, Cathy Robinson, Jamie Allshouse, Gleema Whitman, Laura and Marie Shetler and Kay Ray.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother and a sister.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 5-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Dush were good friends of my parents, and my siblings and I grew up with Roger, Ann and Nancy. Whenever I was in town I would try to see the Dushes and continued doing so after Mr. Dush passed away. I traded Christmas cards with Mrs. Dush every year and looked forward to hearing how she was doing. A truly great woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Rest In Peace-i loved your spirit and gentle goodness!

I want to echo my sister, Cindy’s comments. I remember spending several 4th of July holidays with the Dush family. It was always a great time! I also learned about pruning trees from Mr. Dush at the Christmas tree farm in the middle of a couple hot summers and helping cut trees for a couple Christmas seasons. It was hard work! Most of all I remember how positive and happy both of them were. They lived wonderful lives and touched many people. My condolences to my classmate, Nancy, and the whole family.
Nancy, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I pray that the memories of your Mom can provide comfort during this difficult time.

Mrs. Dush changed my son’s life by being so understanding and flexible when it came to educating him. I am forever grateful.
When I think of Betty, I always remember her contagious smile. A true lady! Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
My condolences to Betty’s family. Betty was my 4-H advisor and the supervising teacher when I did my student teaching at Grant Street School in 1962. I still have the wedding gift she gave me in 1963. I will always be grateful to her.
My first memories of Mrs. Dush were in November 1959, as a very scared Kindergarten student transferring from Walnut Street to Pittsburgh Avenue. She was an excellent teacher and I was blessed to also have her as a Sunday School teacher at the Methodist Church. After not seeing her for many years I was at the Pine Tree Barn circa 1983 and she called me by name… said she recognized my impish grin and eyes (smile). May she rest in peace for a life well lived.
