WOOSTER – Arlene E. SHANER, 95, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in Wooster Community Hospital.
She was born April 5, 1916 in Baughman Township, Wayne County, the daughter of Clark H. and Zaidee M. Hutchison Martin. She married Roy E. Shaner in 1939. He died in 1996.
She retired from Rubbermaid after 26 years as a machine operator. Arlene also played with an all girl dance band called the Wooster Co-Eds and the Canton Blue Orchids and with Jack and Hines during WWII. She was an avid card player at the Community Center and a former member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed ball room dancing with her husband.
Surviving are sons, Allen (Cindy) Shaner of Wooster and Rex E Shaner of Burbank; grandchildren, Kelley (Steve) Adams of Columbus, Matt (Missy) Shaner of Millersburg and Kristie (Dan) Gates of Jackson Twp.; great-grandchildren, Vanna Shaner and Zachary Shaner, Devon Kelleher and Kristian Gates.
In addition to her husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Emma Leathers and brothers, Joseph C and Robert J. Martin.
There will be no calling hours or services.
McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
