Art Berry was called home on August 14, 2009 after a long
battle with Leukemia.
Born on September 18, 1930 to Herbert and Opal (Motter)
Berry and raised in Wayne County, Art met and married Jo Berry on October 6,
1959 with whom he has shared his life with during the last 50 years. Over the years, they started and raised
a family together, never once leaving each other?s side.
As owner of A&T Alignment, Art supported his family for
more then 40 years but his devotion to his family did not end there. In addition to owning his own business,
Art was a school bus driver, worked as a welder at Crown Steel, and worked in
the Garden and Grocery sections at Walmart during his retirement.
Art was an active member in the Masonic Lodge as a Thirty
Second Degree Mason. Although Art enjoyed working outside in his yard or
working on his classic cars in his garage, his true passions were supporting
his wife, his family, and the dogs they took everywhere with them.
Art always put the needs of others ahead of his own,
especially when in regards to his family. Even during his struggle with
Leukemia, Art was more concerned with helping others instead of worrying about
himself. As a testimonial to the
way he lived his life and the way he raised his kids, Art participated in
several research trials at the Ohio State University and donated his bone
marrow on countless occasions in the hope that they might someday discover a
cure for the disease that took him from his family.
Art is survived by his wife Jo Berry and their sons Art
Berry, Ted Berry, and Scott Perry. Other family members include sister Pauline
Wolgamuth, brothers William, Kenneth, Don Berry. Also, Frank and Dan
Berry. Art is preceded in death by
his two infant daughters Hope Ann and Elizabeth Velvet, parents Herbert and
Opal Berry, and brother Virgel Berry.
The funeral will be held at Church of the Cross at 11:00 am
on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 with Reverend Matthew Wald officiating. Calling hours will be from 10:00 am to
11:00 am. A private Masonic service will be
held by the family. The burial will
be at Nankin Cemetery in Nankin, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Secrest Arboretum Art and Jo Berry Memorial Walkway c/o Ken Cochran at the Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute, 1328 Dover Rd. Wooster Ohio 44691. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home is assisting the family will arrangements.
