WOOSTER – Bernard Ronald “Toots” Besancon, 84, of Wooster passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at his home.

He was born March 12, 1938 in Wayne County, the son of Francis and Laura Pailliotet Besancon.  He married Paulette A. Naizer on September 5, 1964.  She survives.

He had been a truck driver for 35 years for Rubbermaid, had worked as a bricklayer mason for Galen Hostetter, had worked for Boyce Brothers Construction and Sheller Meats.  Was a Staff Sargent for the 447th Military Affairs, was a member of the 555th Honors Detachment, a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus and a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and volunteered for the Gabriel Project.

Everyone he met was a friend to him.  He always put others before himself.  He was a caring and generous person and was devoted to his Catholic faith.  He loved gardening, woodworking and loved his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Paulette, are his children Michael (Maureen) Besancon of Wooster, Thomas Besancon of Dallas, Texas, Vickie (Jamie) Ebert of Wooster and Larry (Lea Ann) Besancon of Creston; grandchildren Ashley and Jacob Besancon of Wooster, Rebecca and Justin Ebert of Wooster and Brendan and Bryce Besancon of Creston; siblings Raymond (Rosemary) Besancon and Richard (Lea Ann) Besancon both of Smithville; sister-in-law Betty Besancon of Sterling, brother-in-law Steve Tope of Wooster and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Eileen Nicholas, Mary Jane Tope, Adrian and Vincent Besancon, Beatrice Garver, Bernadette Besancon and Joseph Besancon.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster from 5-8:00 p.m.  A Rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Rev. Richard Samide officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

What a kind, precious uncle. I will forever remember his smile and gentle manner. He was always so genuine and kind. I adored him as a child growing up and surely into my adult life. I loved him beyond measure and especially remember the kindness and love he showed to my mom throughout her life. I'll miss you Uncle Ronnie.

Ron welcomed me and took time to have meaningful conversations with me. I greatly respected him and the faith he has I God. My wife and I have Ron and his family in our prayers. May God be with him in heaven.

We are so honored to call Ron our “friend”. Such a warm and engaging gentleman. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our deepest sympathies to the family.

We are so saddened to learn of Ron’s death. I got to know Ron from working together on Election Day at Old Stone Church. He was a friendly guy and good conversationalist. Hugs and prayers to you all.

I can't say enough about this wonderful man. I worked with him for many years at Rubbermaid. He was a great person and helped everyone with work related issues as a fantastic union representative. Always had a smile and some comment to make us smile with him! One of the most honest and caring persons I ever worked with.
