Carol Jane œJan Hider of Wooster went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 13, 2022.
She was born April 17, 1934, in Mount Eaton, Ohio, the daughter of Bryan and Bessie (Kenwell) Kreiling and graduated from Jeromesville High School, finishing her education at Wooster Business College.
She was married March 26, 1960, to Richard Hider at the Wooster Trinity United Church of Christ officiated by Dr. Leo Kiel.   Their children became members of Trinity as well.   Richard and Jan were married for 53 years prior to Richard ™s death in August 2013.
For several years before having children, Jan worked as a secretary for Attorneys Marion F. Graven and George Barnard in Wooster.   She also served as secretary to the Local Young Republicans.   She was a member of Damacus White Shrine and Floralynn Garden Club.   Later in life, for about 25 years, she worked as a volunteer in the household department of People-to-People Ministries.
Jan was also very active in gardening and flower arranging which included memberships in the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs, American Flower Arrangers Guild, Judges Guild of Kingwood Center, and was a former OAGC accredited judge.
She served as OAGC Region 14 Publicity Chairman, OAGC Region 14 Flower Show Chairman and was a two-term State Secretary of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs under Presidents Nadine Elder of Warsaw and Kate Pond of Doylestown.
She was known for her love of Period, Moribana and Modern Flower arranging and flower gardening.
Jan was an avid reader of various biographies and fictional literature by Pearl Buck.
She adored impressionistic art, with a particular fondness for Monet and Renoir.   When it came to TV and film, time-period shows, like Downton Abbey, were some of her favorites.
She loved listening to ragtime music, such as by Scott Joplin.   One of her favorite musicians was Elton John, especially his song œCandle in the Wind. .   She was particularly moved when listening to the song œToo Beautiful to Last by Englebert Humperdinck.   Her favorite childhood song, which later reminded her of her mother when they went to church, was œLove Lifted Me.
Jan enjoyed travel with her favorite two trips being Switzerland and Ireland.
As an animal lover she always had a cat or two in the house.   Additionally, she cared for many outdoor feathered and furry friends.
She is survived by her son Eric Richard Hider of Wooster, daughter Julie Maria (David) Ellis of Hilliard, Ohio, and brother Ronald D.(Betty) Kreiling of Jeromesville.

  5. I had the great pleasure of meeting Jan and Richard in the 90’s when I was dating their daughter, Julia. Although I only dated Julia for a short time, we have never stopped being friends. The same was true for Jan and Richard…we remained friends the rest of the time they were alive. One day I will depart this world and only because I accepted God’s free gift of eternal life, I will get to be in heaven with Jan and Richard! My condolences to Julia, Dave, and the rest of the Hider family as they deal with the loss of one very tough but wonderful lady. Jan was very protective of Julia and she let me know early on that there would be consequences if I didn’t treat Julia right. I respected Jan for that fierce protective nature and it is one of the many great qualities she possessed.

  22. Dear Julie and Eric,

My sincere sympathies and deepest condolences are with you both, Dave, and your family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Your mother was like a second mother to me during my teen years. I learned so much from spending time with your family all our skating years, and know how very proud she was of both of you. I have many fond memories of your mother, and hope that your memories of her will be comforting during this difficult time.

My heart goes out to you. It is hard to think that Jan is gone, but she is.
Jan was quite a dynamic woman, for whom I had an immense amount of respect and admiration.
I relished how she always knew what was going on, but one would never know. What a fantastic skating parent she was, nothing escaped her awareness,
I am sad that she has crossed over but, at the same time, I am full of joy her journey of life is complete.
I am always here should you need me.
    God Bless

I am praying that you will be comforted in the loss of your beloved mother. She lived a wonderful life and got to enjoy many wonderful pastimes like traveling, gardening and spending time with her kids. You guys were so devoted to her especially when her health started to decline. I’m sure she appreciated and took comfort in all the time you spent with her and how you tended to her living conditions and her heath to make sure she was as happy and comfortable as possible. I know she’s smiling down on you from heaven. Love you guys! I’m here if you need me.
