SMITHVILLE – Daniel L. Rehm, 97, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.              
He was born July 3, 1921 to Earnest G. and Mary J. Wagner Rehm in rural Orrville at the family farm.   He married Mary Stahl on October 3, 1953.   She survives.   Daniel graduated from Smithville High School in 1939 and attended the Ohio State University before entering the US Army Air Force where he served as a flight engineer and B29 pilot during WWII.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Smithville where he served on the church council, was Sunday school Superintendent and Luther League leader.   He was a member of Smithville, County, State and the National Grange for over 80 years, charter member of Smithville Community Historical Society and charter member of Smithville Ruritans with 51 years of perfect attendance.   Daniel was a member of Wayne Co. Historical Society and Wayne Co. Farm Bureau.   He was a life time farmer and raised Christmas Trees for a number of years and also worked for the Wayne Soil and Water Conservation Service for 20 years assisting farmers to protect the soil and environment with conservation practices with strip cropping, farm ponds and water ways.
Surviving are his children, Barbara L. (Gary) Zumbiel of Florence, Kentucky, Alvin L. (Lisa) Rehm of Wooster and James R. (Laurie) Rehm of Smithville.; grandchildren, Orry Zumbiel, Nathan (Gwendolyn) Rehm, Aaron Rehm, Nicholas Rehm, Hannah Jo (Patrick) Barrios and Adam J. (Nessa) Rehm; a great-grandchild, Emerson Daniel Rehm; a brother, Earnest Rehm, Jr. of Smithville and several cousins and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Genevieve Johnson and a brother Marion P. Rehm.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 777 S. Summit St., Smithville with the Rev. Kristy Buyok officiating.   Friends will be received on Monday at the Church from 10-11:30 a.m.   Inurnment of cremains will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
