David W. Reed, III, 71 of Wooster died on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Wooster Community Hospital.
He was born in Alliance to David W. Reed Jr. and Virginia (Nye) Reed.   He was married to Carolyn Roberts, who survives, for over 48 years.
David taught Special Education for over 38 years in the West Holmes School district, retiring in 2009.   He was a member of the Wooster United Methodist Church.   David had a keen interest in history and archaeology, listening to music, playing the guitar and was teaching himself to play the banjo.   Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.   He was a member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio, past president of the Sugar Creek Archaeology Chapter, a member of the Johnny Appleseed Chapter, past member of the Killbuck Valley Historical Society and currently the curator of the Killbuck Valley Museum.
Along with his wife, David is survived by his children Matthew (Carrie) Reed of Apple Creek and Kristin Reed of Canton; grandchildren Kristion Stokes, Owen and Kole Gish and a sister Barbara Slaine of Fairview Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster with Pastor Jim Cooper officiating.   Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church on Thursday.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to the Killbuck Valley Museum, P. O. Box 142, Killbuck, OH 44637 or to the charity of the donor ™s choice.
McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster is assisting the family.

  1. So sorry to hear this! I had the pleasure of working with him as a teacher’s aide several years ago at the middle school. He truly loved every student he taught and they loved him. He will be missed.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about ur loss. Mr reed was my middle school teacher. But he wasnt just my teacher he was like family to me and a dear friend. He was always there when I needed him and he became a roll model to me. He was the kindest man I knew. It’s so hard to hear hes gone thro out my school years we always stayed in touch weather it was thro mail or email and wed always send pictures back n fourth in sure going to miss all that. Again I’m so srry for your loss.

  5. I too am sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I worked with him for many years, and he always was so caring with his students. He would sometimes get frustrated when he couldn’t “fix” something for them, which showed how much he cared. He also had a great sense of humor. It was a pleasure to work with him. I am so sorry for your loss.

  9. Please accept my sympathy in the passing of Dave. I worked with him in the West Holmes School System and enjoyed his good nature and positive influence with his students. He was a good and sincere man who will certainly be missed.

  10. I am sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I worked with Dave for many years at Clark Elementary. He cared for his students and worked hard to see that they did well. I always appreciated Dave’sense of humor and willingness to laugh. He will be missed.
