APPLE CREEK – Delno Donald ORR, 86, of Apple Creek, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 in West View Manor Nursing Home..
He was born October 10, 1922 in Apple Creek the son of Ross J and Ethel Hofacre Orr.
He was a dairy farmer and a truck driver who was proud of his Irish Heritage. He was a member of the Apple Creek United Methodist Church. Delno was a member of the Gnat Boxer Square Dancing Group and had wintered in Fort Meade, Florida for the past 24 years where he was a past president of the homeowners assoc. He enjoyed attending all activities of his children and grandchildren.. He was a member of the Ohio State University R.O.T.C. Pershing Rifles. He served his country in the U.S. Army where he was in Pattons 3rd Army Artillery Headquarter Battery and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving are wife, Hazel Reich-Brauneck Orr, his children, Karen (Alan) Hittepole of Worthington, Richard D (Sheila) Orr of Wooster, Marcia (Dan) Carpenter of Holmesville, Karla (Kevin) Jewell of Wooster and Paula (Bruce) Myers of Orrville, 3 step-children Terry (Linda) Brauneck, Becky (Roger) Murray and Bonnie Kaufman; grandchildren Marly (Tony) Caton, Nathan (Maureen) Hittepole, Judson Orr, Douglas Orr, Toni Carpenter, Brent (Shannon) Carpenter, Jeffrey Jewell, Kathryn Jewell, Jeremy Jewell, Lee Delno Myers and David Dean Myers, great-grandchildren Kayla Carpenter, Kiana Carpenter, Alexander Caton and Emily Caton; 6 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, William Orr and Harlan Skip Orr both of Apple Creek.
Delno was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marvaline Howenstine Orr in 1966 and brothers, Clayton & Alonzo Orr, a sister, Norma Jean Knoble.
Friends will be received at the at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 P.M.
A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. James Cooper officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Apple Creek Cemetery.
He was a loving supportive husband and father and progressive thinker.
