WOOSTER – Donald O ACKERMAN, 82, of Wooster, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 in Smithville Western Care Center, Wooster.
He was born February 23, 1927 in Wooster, the son of Warren and Nina Lawrence Ackerman.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Office in Wooster as a letter carrier and supervisor of Mail and Delivery. In his retirement he worked in the Post Offic in the former IGA and at Dee’s Hallmark Store. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and had served as president of the Local Letters Carriers Union, a former member of the Wooster Moose, American Legion Post 68 and coached Little League Baseball for 20 plus years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was an avid sportsman, loved to vacation at Myrtle Beach and was always looking for a good game of Euchre.
Surviving are his children, Debra Ackerman and Donald S. (Cheryl) Ackerman both of Wooster, Dennis P. Ackerman and his partner Richard of Columbus and Douglas B. Ackerman and his partner Jill of Jackson Twp; grandchildren, Travis Ackerman and his partner Amber, Chad (Jill) Ackerman, Anna Johansson, Rachel Urang, Allen Schlesner, Molly, Kiah and Zoe Ackerman; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel Ackerman and a sister, June (Richard) Louttit both of Wooster and a brother-in-law Robert Pritchett.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothea Schmidt Ackerman, on March 4, 1996 whom he married August 26, 1951, a sister Jean Pritchett and a brother David Ackerman.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 P.M.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Kevan Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Wooster Cemetery, Wooster.
