McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster, is assisting the family.
Dorothy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 19, 1920 to James and Lena (Aldrige) Lewis.
Dorothy graduated from South High School in Cleveland in 1938 and then went to Case Western Reserve School of Teaching and also Dyke School of Business.
On January 31, 1942, Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, William, at Miles Park Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. Will was sent off to Germany to fight in WWII shortly after they were married. Dorothy wanted to be involved with the war effort so she moved to Kansas and later to Michigan in order to work at factories to support the war. She then moved back to Cleveland and Will returned home when the war ended in 1946. They lived in Cleveland until they retired to Nokomis, Florida in 1980. They then moved to Wooster in 1986 to be close to family. In November of 2007 Dorothy and Will both moved into Sunrise Assisted Living in Wooster where they received wonderful care. Will passed away on May 8, 2007.
Dorothy loved to memorize poetry and also write her own. She loved to write stories and kept journals of her life and travels. While in Cleveland, she was Cub Scout Leader and PTA president for many years while her 2 children were growing up, (We figured it was to keep an eye on us) and always loved to be around children. She worked for the Cleveland School District and was perfect for that job. Over the years, she was a Mom to so many kids who had none and inspired them to think positive and keep their life goals high. She had a heart of gold.
Dorothy loved to hand stitch quilts she made and then donate them to area non-profit groups for fund-raising. She also made beautiful dolls and donated them too. She made all of the dog scarves for a local Therapy Dog organization and was involved with the Wayne Co. Humane Society from 1996-2003. She was one of their first foster homes and saved many dogs with her loving care. She loved all animals and always had a spot in her heart for any that needed help or a home. With any spare time she had left, Dorothy loved to work in her gardens where dandelions were welcomed.
Dorothy will be deeply misssed by her daughter and best friend, Elizabeth (Dr. David) Stewart; son, William (Donna) and the shining star in her life, Christopher Andrew Robertson, her only grandchild she loved so much and nephews James and Scott Lewis. She also leaves her dogs Allie and Cricket, who will miss their mom.
