Douglas Clyde Myers passed away peacefully on the evening of Sept 19th, 2022, following a brief battle with cancer. He was preceeded in his death by his parents Clyde and Pauline Myers. Surviving is his lovely wife of 25 years Shelly; sister Pamela (Patrick) Hutson; children Lauren (Trey) Chitty, Stephanie (Joshua) Mitten, and Daniel (Stacy Klemme); and his five grandsons Cameron and Jonathan Chitty, Liam and Cason Mitten, and Ashton Myers-Little; in addition to his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He made his grand entrance into this world on Feb 3rd of 1958 and placed into the arms of Clyde and Pauline on March 15th, 1958. He always said he with the biggest grin that he was the “luckiest boy in the world”. He took great pride in being a husband and father, and was over the moon when he was promoted to “Rock and Roll” Grandpa. He loved his trips to TN and FL to see his grandsons that live outside of Old Woo. Dad delivered humor, love, support, and sometimes a raised eyebrow to all of his friends and family.

His passion in all things genealogy was very important to him, finding his love of the theater whether being in the audience and/or bringing a character to life on the stage starting with the Pickle Barrel Players at the Methodist Church and later with the Wayne County Performing Arts Council (WaPAC); his and Shelly’s trips to Watkins Glen, NY to perform murder mystery dinner theater and enjoying all offered samples of fine wine in the Finger Lakes region; walking up and down freshly tilled fields searching for arrowheads; countless miles walking through his Beechwood Drive neighborhood, while passing under the buckeye trees to downtown. He never hesitated to stop and introduce his self, chat, and make a friend. He joined his parents in their interests of postcards of Wayne County courthouses, stamps, antiques, and adding to his stacks of books in his library.

Doug spent his time early on as a dispatcher and police officer in Wooster, and retired after 33 years of service as the Records Office for the Wooster Fire Division. After retirement he was able to give more of his time in becoming a docent and story teller on the behalf of the Wayne County Historical Society. His thirst for knowledge and history of Wayne County could never be satiated. He was a dedicated collector of coins and a proud member of the Wayne County Coin Club and serving as their Treasurer for 30+ years.

Despite the large loss of everything that he was and to everyone else in his life, we know exactly what he would say to pull us all through… “If this is the worst I have to face, then I’m in good shape”.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster.

  7. We called you Sherlock for many years because of your “Sherlock Holmes” hat you wore while dispatching at the PD. It was good to see you not too long ago and say hi. You still bring smiles to many faces.

  10. You were one of a kind, and I always enjoyed running into you. It’s never easy to find someone who can be on the same page humor wise, but you and I laughed a lot, and the family seemed to have no idea what was going on when we took jokes further and further out. Thank you.

  11. My memories of Doug go back to Parkview Elementary, especially to a time when we worked together on a report about Ireland. Although I can’t recall the report, I’ll never forget Douglas C.’s ever present smile and laugh as we put it together. May memories bring Doug’s family and friends comfort and peace.

  13. Tom and Barb Holmes. We are sorry we can’t attend tomorrow as we have company coming but wanted you to know how sad we were to hear about Doug. Tom knew him from his thirty years at Wooster Fire Dept..On my first day in the Records Dept. for the police and sheriff I was told someone wanted to meet me. I went to Dispatch and he held out his hand and said, “hello Holmes , I’m Sherlock!” We was Santa for years at our daughter’s Christmas parties and an excellent one! Whenever we saw him he made you feel like he was so happy to see you. We will miss him.

  14. What a good guy to know. Unforgettable for sure. And going back as far as Parkview Elementary, he was the only grade schooler who used a middle initial. I liked that, Douglas C!

  23. It is never easy to lose a beloved friend. I shared a loving friendship with Doug for 47 years. I watched his three wonderful kids grow up and become strong adults. I attended his wedding to his beautiful bride Shelly. Doug was a man who felt intensely the things he was interested in whether it was ghost hunting, family history or collecting mutant jelly beans. His grin and humor will be missed. Goodbye, Dear Friend. Linnea Studer Davis
