Eric Philip œRick  Oswald, 69, of Wooster died November 22, 2018 at Ohio ™s Hospice LifeCare with his wife and children by his side.
He was born March 9, 1949 in Hartville, Ohio to Marvin and Edna Oswald.   He married Susan Hostetler July 29, 1983.   They celebrated 35 years of marriage this year.   Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Kirk of Painesville, Alec (Jessica) of Orrville and Sara (Ryan) Oberst of Wooster and his three grandchildren Carson and Austyn Oswald and Jason Oberst.   Also surviving are his mother Edna Oswald of Wooster, Brother Gregg (Susan) Oswald of Millersburg and many nieces and nephews.
Rick graduated from Dalton High School in 1967 and Ohio Northern University in 1972 with a degree in Civil Engineering.   He was first employed by Wayne County as a bridge engineer, and in 1978 became the City of Wooster Engineer, retiring 2003.   After retirement, he was a driver for the Counseling Center and was the construction engineer for the Rails to Trails bike trail from Rittman to Creston.  
He was a member of Wooster United Methodist Church, most recently serving as a trustee, a member of the board for College Hills Retirement Village, and a former member of Wooster Kiwanis and Wooster Elks.
Rick loved playing softball.   He was a member of Wooster McDonald ™s and Real Estate Showcase teams qualifying for regional and national tournaments.
Rick was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 3:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster with Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.   Private family burial will be held in Wooster Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be directed to Rails to Trails of Wayne County, P. O. Box 1566, Wooster, OH 44691 or to Ohio ™s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
