WOOSTER Evelyn G. Horn Harmon, 100, of Wooster went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Smithville Western Care Center, just 9 days shy of her 101st birthday.
She was born December 17, 1920 in Summit County to Jay Gifford and Mary Opal Smith Horn. She moved to Wayne County in her early childhood and grew up on a farm. She graduated from Congress Twp. High School in 1939. Evelyn married Lester Harmon in 1941 and together they raised four children.
Later in life, she graduated from Wooster Business College went on to work for Dunlap Hospital in Orrville where she retired after 22 years in 1983.
Evelyn is survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters Mary Ruth Henderlong of Plain City and Leota Nussbaum of Orrville as well as nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; children Aubrey E. Harmon, Kathryn E. Harmon Davidson, Christine Ann Harmon Bullard and Nancy Jean Harmon Sparr; brother Robert Horn and sister Mildred Welty.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 1:00 PM at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster. Interment will be in Wooster Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Evelyn and I were cousins. Her mother Opal and my mother Dale were sisters 16 years apart. I used to visit Evelyn at Smithville Western. My sympathy and love to Leota and Mary Ruth.
I treasure what few memories I have of our sweet family.

An angel that lived here on earth. Strong, smart, sometimes stubborn, devoted Christian, are just a few of many words that can describe this beautiful person. She spent most of her life sacrificing for those she loved. Memories… rice krispie treats being pushed into a pan with a wooden spoon; half a peach with some cottage cheese on top; chiclets gum, you only get one; making eggnog with hand beaters; coffee cake; going out to pick your switch off the tree, for when you were naughty; her big white peonies that she grew out back; watching ALL of the Sunday morning evangelists on TV. I can still picture her sitting in her rocking recliner with her eyes closed praying on Sunday mornings. Thank you for being there when nobody else was. Rest in peace sweet grandmother.
